Salary: $82,916.00 - $97,093.00, DOE


Qualifications: Current Montana Teacher and Administrative Licensure,

Preferred: Experience with Behavior Management, PLCs, MTSS & IEFA

Job Description

High School Assistant Principal


REPORTS TO: HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Serve as chief administrator of the assigned building in the absence of the principal.
  • Assist the principal in managing programs, activities and functions consistent with district policy and priorities.
  • As designated by the principal, supervise and evaluate teachers and staff in terms of their performance and responsibilities.
  • Be visible in the school community and recognized as an educational leader who is responsive to the school’s and community’s needs.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
  • Supervise monitoring of student attendance and investigate when appropriate.
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
  • Help to develop, monitor, and implement a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Assist in planning and supervising school student activity programs.
  • Supervise students in attendance at assemblies, athletic events, and other school events.
  • Maintain a presence in the school building and property to monitor safety and security and direct and coordinate teacher supervision of areas such as halls and cafeteria.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
  • Completes and submits all school, district and state reports as required.

  • Demonstrate understanding and leadership skills in dealing with issues and problems in all aspects of the building.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in accomplishing the mission.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with student and personnel matters.
  • Effectively manage time and responsibilities, sometimes within severe time constraints.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Class 3 Montana teacher certificate with principal’s endorsement.

Recommended five years’ experience as a classroom teacher.

Promethean Board, computer, calculator, copier, fax, telephone/voice mail, email, information management software


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee frequently will work irregular or extended hours while performing the duties of this job.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments.


MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress and work with frequent interruptions. The employee is frequently involved in social interaction which requires oral and written communication.
