Job Responsibilities:
The Hospice Physician is responsible for providing Hospice Physician services in cooperation with the Hospice Medical Director including the following:
- Provide hospice physician services (including IDT attendance, verbal and written CTIs, and education and consultation with nursing staff) on a regular and ongoing basis to at least one of Good Shepherd’s hospice teams.
- Provide Hospice Face to Face eligibility visits when needed
- Provide Hospice symptom management/goals of care visit when necessary.
- Act as the attending physician for hospice patients in need of one.
- Provide Hospice physician after-hour coverage for all of Good Shepherd’s hospice teams in conjunction/rotation with the Hospice Medical Director.
- Provide Hospice Physician coverage, including on-call coverage, IDT attendance and prescriptions in the absence of the Hospice Medical Director.
- Liaise with attending physicians and to ensure appropriate medical care when necessary.
- Serve as medical resource to Good Shepherd staff, clients, families, and attending physicians regarding pain and symptom control management.
- Assist in the resolution of complicated client care decisions.
Education, Skills and Experience:
- Licensed in Massachusetts as a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy
- Board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Experience in pain management and symptom control
- Experience with interdisciplinary team settings
- Must possess good communication skills and qualities of empathy and sensitivity regarding the needs of terminally ill people and their families
- Must have expertise in the medical care of terminally ill individuals
