HR Compliance Specialist

Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: HR Compliance Specialist in the Office of Human Resources & Equal Opportunity.
Duties include, but are not limited to: coordinates with departments/employees regarding all new hire employees, rehire eligibility and international re-verification for the purpose of completing I-9 form timely; verifies that all I-9 documentation is updated for rehire employees, if needed; enters new hire and re-verification information into Electronic Verification of Employment Eligibility (E-Verify) system based on federal guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security; conducts periodic I-9 audit to ensure compliance with federal regulations; provides assistance with any other HR related compliance activities; assists employees with completion of hire/rehire paperwork; conducts follow-up with departments to ensure all paperwork is received timely; develops and maintains system to manage I-9 and E-Verify forms electronically; assists with general human resources duties, including employment verifications; and coordinates the University’s response to unemployment claims, in consultation with the employee relations area.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or equivalent human resources related experience and prior customer service experience are required. Previous experience with Form I-9 and E-Verify and basic knowledge of assisting international employees with completing Form I-9 are preferred.

Human Resources Specialist (AG05/61122498/FTE-S00806P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 04. Salary range: $29,061.00 (minimum) – $41,415.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent human resources related experience. Prior customer service experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with Form I-9 and E-Verify preferred. Basic knowledge of assisting international employees with completing Form I-9.

Required Licensure and/or Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of federal and SC state laws and regulations as they relate to E-Verify, I-9, and unemployment. Ability to evaluate policies and processes and to discern the need for change. Ability to develop new processes as necessary based upon new laws and regulations. Ability to design, develop and conduct educational efforts regarding legal and regulatory issues. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Duties of the position require a high degree of accountability in dealing with University matters. Must possess sound decision-making skills and exercise independent judgment and discretion.
