PMA’s primary purpose is to negotiate and administer labor contracts with the International Longshore & Warehouse Union on behalf of the Association’s member companies, as well as administrating payroll and certain benefits. Our headquarters and administrative office is located in San Francisco, California, with area offices in Southern California (Long Beach and satellite offices in San Diego and Port Hueneme) and the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Oregon, and Seattle and Tacoma, Washington) in addition to Northern California (Oakland).
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Products and Benefits Manager, the HRIS Analyst is responsible for the company’s ILWU labor data projects to ensure they meet the business needs of PMA members.
Administers, develops, and researches the PMA’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS) database. Oversee and perform business analysis, quality assurance testing, and implementation of systems and system enhancements as defined by business user requests. The position will participate in and coordinate all aspects of HRIS reporting requirements as well as analyze and respond to complex data requirements.
This position also serves as a liaison between Strategic Business Analysis (SBA), Benefits, Labor Relations, Training, and the Information Technology (IT) departments to develop and maintain efficient operations.
Ensures that data is accurately processed and maintained according to organization rules and applicable regulations. May be responsible for defining system requirements and working with external vendors to evaluate and select HRIS software and systems.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
25% Partner with Products department, technical consultants, IT and cross functional partners to configure systems.
20% Work directly with business users to identify process improvements to simplify management of day-to-day business operations related to HRIS data and processes.
10% Assist in inter-department operations such as benefits payroll extracts. Understand and become thoroughly familiar with the Pay Guarantee Plan, holiday, vacation, industry travel payments, Clerk Work Opportunity Guarantee, workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance claims, disability, leaves of absences, and data entry of personnel information into the Oracle HR database.
10% Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues and defects with exceptional customer service.
10% Actively participate in design, planning, implementation and support of business process configuration, security, and administration. Design, develop, test and implement project plans for industry-required HRIS functionality.
10% Research and analyze data for strategic business analysis utilizing Web FOCUS and SQL Developer business intelligence software.
5% Develop and implement internal training programs for new PMA employees related to HRIS operation.
5% Perform quality assurance testing of system patches, new system development, and system enhancements.
5% Function as backup for the Benefits staff in all PMA offices companywide. Learn the unique ways of how benefits are handled due to individual Area agreements, and initiate ways in which the system can be streamlined and configured to work more efficiently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Information Systems and Technology, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is ideal.
Understanding and working knowledge of Oracle EBS software, forms, and reports is preferred.
Database query skills, primarily PL/SQL is required. WebFOCUS is preferred.
Possess excellent numerical, analytical, and business problem-solving skills. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy using good business judgment with strong user focus.
Maritime industry experience is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is based in Portland, Oregon conveniently located close to public transportation. PMA offers a flexible, fun, and professional work environment. Employees have the option of working a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days from home.

PMA offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits and 401K. PMA offers PPO and HMO options with Aetna and Kaiser and pays 93% of the premiums for employees and dependents.
