JOB TITLE: HUMANE EDUCATION & OUTREACH ASSOCIATE
FLSA: Non-Exempt
FT/PT: Full Time
SUMMARY
Assists the Humane Education department with the delivery of a curriculum that delivers a Humane message to all ages. Participates in preparing the classroom and supports the Humane Education Coordinator in teaching the community about various humane topics, including animal welfare, animal legislation and animal behavior. Assists with on- and offsite humane education and outreach events that promote a compassionate and caring community for all animals. Promote positive interactions between humans and animals to bring about social, emotional, cognitive, and physical change.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Works with the Humane Education Coordinator to support the on-site Pasadena Humane Kids for Animals Program, including but not limited to: Kids for Animals Club; Pasadena Humane Academy; Parent and Me: Pet Playtime; Animal Adventurer Workshops; Scout Sunday; Barks & Books; Jr. Vets Camp; and special events.
- Contributes to lesson plans and prepares the classroom for sessions. Helps Humane Education Coordinator prepare for instruction by getting materials ready or setting up equipment.
- Attend online and on- and off-site Community Programs, including non-fundraising community events; kids programming; adult learning opportunities; and Mobile activities.
- Assists with written and visual programs, events and curriculum.
- Ensure a positive, educational approach to customer service to educate the public and keep animals in homes as appropriate.
- Coordinate registration and monitor attendance for community programs and events.
- Promote positive relations with the public, volunteers, and staff while promoting the Pasadena Humane's programs, policies and philosophies.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma (or GED/proficiency certificate).
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
- 1 year of experience working in any of the following: youth programs, community education, or humane education.
- Experience working with youth ages 5-15 preferred. Background in preschool, elementary education, zoology, animal behavior, and animal sciences a plus.
- Comfortable interacting and working with domestic animals on and off-site.
- Must have a valid class C driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- CPR & First Aid Certifications must be earned within 90 days of employment.
- California's Mandated Reporter training must be completed within 2 weeks of employment.
- Well-developed interpersonal, public speaking, and communication skills.
- Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills
- High competency in a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and email Excellent phone etiquette a plus.
- Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work well with the public, volunteers, and fellow staff
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and manage several projects simultaneously
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with supervisor, leadership, coworkers, volunteers and the public – promoting a strong collaborative team approach.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS
Fast-paced environment. Employees are exposed to numerous animals (living and deceased), including those with uncertain dispositions. They are required to act in a safe and responsible manner.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
