West Virginia University Research Corporation's Office of Research Program Management is currently accepting applications for a Hybrid Project Manager.

About the Opportunity

As a Hybrid Project Manager, you will be responsible to collaborate with Principal Investigators on projects for planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluating on assigned projects according to timelines, budgets, and specifications. Overseeing project teams, reporting to the project sponsor, and ensuring quality control throughout the projects' life cycles are central to this position.

This position provides project as well as direct internal and external client support services, as well as responds to inquiries and independently resolves matters of low to moderate complexity. Responsibilities require some judgment, resourcefulness, and originality, but diverse guides and precedents are usually available to apply or adapt to the circumstances. Work effort has considerable impact on client services, program and project image, with potential legal liabilities.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities are functional in nature and performed under general supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the project development from initiation to closure.
  • Wors with project sponsors and stakeholders to create scope, goals, deliverables, budget, and schedule.
  • Complete the work breakdown structure to estimate effort required for each task.
  • Provide a project schedule to identify when each task will be performed.
  • Create a Project Management Plan.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to team members and stakeholders.
  • Act as a mediator between stakeholders and team members.
  • Log and resolve issues, problem solving throughout the project life cycle.
  • Effectively manage project scope by ensuring any changes to scope are documented and approved through the Project Change Request process and when necessary, create Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) documentation.
  • Develop tools and best practices for project management execution.
  • Track and report on project milestones and provide status reports to sponsor with approval of PI copying all pertinent stakeholders.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate project team members on a continual, pro-active basis.
  • Facilitate technical Lessons Learned and perform project management Lessons Learned.
  • Perform a post-project evaluation against the base line to determine how well results were achieved and in collaboration with the PI, complete the Final Report.
  • Ensure all project documents are safely archived for project close out.
  • Facilitate Project Close-out meeting and ensure all necessary processes are completed for close out at the University.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Incumbent is responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with a preferred focus in Project Management, Public Administration, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1 - 2 years of project management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and/or software packages.
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilitation, guidance, coordination, and overseeing teams of people.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer utilizing various word processing packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. for reports, graphs, and presentation development.
  • Strong time and workload management skills.
  • Strong communication skills in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to simultaneously coordinate many different administrative tasks, determine relative importance of each, set deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
