The Dane County Land and Water Resources is recruiting for a Hydrologic Technician. The current vacancy is a full- time (1.0 FTE) position. The eligible list created from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future vacancies that occur within the next six (6) months.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision in the Land & Water Resources Department, this classification is responsible for providing technical assistance of water related activities by obtaining field measurements and collecting water samples including: bathymetry surveying and mapping; designing and inspecting dredge operations in accordance with engineering standards and procedures; conducting water flow measurements; and performing other related work activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Conducts bathymetric surveys to be used for design and verification of dredging using current survey techniques and equipment (e.g. Total Station, GPS, UAS, etc.); develops designs using computer drafting programs and models (e.g. CAD, GIS, etc.) for dredging; conducts layout activities and construction oversight in accordance with appropriate standards and specifications; develops as-built construction documentation for completed projects and certification; performs measurements of water-level, stage, and discharge; plots discharge measurements and estimates short periods of missing records; verifies the accuracy of data; prepares samples for lab analyses; performs installation, maintenance, servicing, and troubleshooting of sensing, recording, and communications equipment and instrumentation; observes and notes hydraulic or environmental conditions; develops stage- discharge and velocity index curves and ratings; responds to information requests for data, records, reports, and bulletins; keeps daily records of activities, maintains records as assigned, and assists in the preparation of reports.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction, industrial technology, physical science, biology, or mathematics.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Must possess a WI Department of Natural Resources Boater Safety Certificate prior to the first day of employment.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
Expected to work in an office environment as well as outdoors in adverse weather conditions and terrain (e.g., wet/muddy terrain, construction sites, streams and lakes, etc.); ability to carry equipment up to 50 pounds; ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without adaptive devices; ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend, and walk; ability to use finger, wrist, and arm motion.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices and standards pertaining to water measurements; knowledge of GIS and CAD software systems including mapping bathymetry; knowledge of construction oversight and documentation techniques; knowledge of survey and design techniques and equipment; knowledge of dredge operation and maintenance; ability to organize work and direct the work of others; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to operate various water monitoring equipment such as pressure sensors, acoustic doppler current profiler, rain gauge, and other related equipment; knowledge of engineering principles, practices and standards pertaining to dredging; ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals, public entities, and private agencies.

Bilingual Pay: Employees who work in bilingual designated positions receive an additional $.75 per hour. Undesirable Hours Premium Pay: Employees receive undesirable hours pay of $1.00 for anytime worked between 6:00 p.m. and
6:00 a.m. and for anytime on Saturday and/or Sunday. Paid Parental Leave: Dane County also provides 6 weeks of paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child. Caregiver Leave: Dane County offers 80 hours of paid leave to care for an ill family member.
Telecommuting: Telecommuting allows employees to work remotely for all or part of their workweek. Dane County considers telecommuting to be a viable, flexible option when both the employee and the job are suited to such an arrangement. Dane County will permit telecommuting when it benefits the productivity of the employee and their department and if determined by employee's department that telecommuting is not detrimental to either the County or the employee.
Student Loan Forgiveness: If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
WI Retirement System: Employees hired after 7-1-11 must be expected to work a minimum of 1200 hours annually to be enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System when hired.
