Workholding Industrial / Manufacturing Engineer

The Industrial / Manufacturing Engineer will analyze Workholding production processes, perform experiments, and lead teams to determine best operating conditions, procedures, and processes. Lead continuous improvement activities, create appropriate documentation, and make recommendations for process improvements and equipment upgrades.

The requirements for this position which reports to the Workholding Operations Manager are as follows:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required. Related degree/experience will be considered. Six sigma belt training preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years of continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing environment required. Entry level candidates will be considered. Six sigma green belt certified preferred. Must be able to analyze data using Excel and other software tools. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and terminology required.

SPECIFIC TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Testing methods that evaluate manufacturing processes to ensure process efficiency and product quality.
  • Techniques to drive process-related projects from inception to implementation.
  • Lean tool expertise such as 5S, DMAIC, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping and Material Flow.
  • ISO 9001 standardization requirements.

LOCATION: Elmira, NY

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and executes on existing processes to determine best operating set points and procedures. Champions appropriate changes to the manufacturing process.
  • Identify, plan, and implement new processes for expansion or improvement of business.
  • Use 6-Sigma statistical techniques to analyze existing data and to design and run trials.
  • Leads project teams and troubleshooting teams to determine root cause and corrective action solutions.
  • Ensure that products are made in accordance with documented procedures. Manage deviations from documented procedures through the appropriate PDC and ECN processes.
  • Verifies equipment set-ups, performs observations and monitors manufacturing processes to detect trends and deviations from documented procedures and production performance.
  • Able to interpret, apply and implement statistical quality control and lean methods and tools on existing and new manufacturing processes.
  • Effectively identifies areas for improvement and drives and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Able to perform time studies, efficient cell layouts, as well as create process maps and value stream maps for existing processes.
  • Effectively promotes safety and 5S improvement programs.
  • Develop improvement plans to continuously maximize production throughput while meeting quality specifications.
