As the Insurance Verification Specialist, you will work under the direction of the Reimbursement Supervisor and is responsible for the verification of insurance and maintenance of all authorizations for hospice and hospice board and room patients. This position verifies insurance, obtains authorizations and re-authorizations as required by payors, enters patient demographic, insurance, and authorization information into the computer system, communicates with other departments regarding status of referrals, and notifies patients/families regarding coverage and payment responsibilities.

On an average day you will:

  • Coordinate with onsite location for new admissions by gathering and validating intake data
  • Verify insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and Medical Room and Board
  • Initiate authorizations for hospice care and hospice room and board
  • Maintain current insurance authorizations
  • Update and maintain Contracts Library
  • Communicate with Hospice Liaisons, Hospice Transition Specialist and Centralized Intake
  • Work according to defined procedures and instructions
  • Maintain all files and communications per confidentiality polices including company policies, HIPPA, etc.
  • Verify all data entry in the applicable software and insurance programs
  • Validate completion of all admission forms
  • Verify monthly eligibility for all payors
  • Attend monthly department calls with Central Intake and locations
  • Ensure authorizations team is updated on processes and procedures


Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, associate degree preferred
Must have five (5) years related experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance, preferably in a hospice environment
