There is currently one temporary Specified Purposed Vacancy in the Maternity Directorate CUMH (Pending Permanent Filling)

The post will be based at Cork University Maternity Hospital and an onsite presence will be required at this location.

A panel may be created for Head of Operations (General Manager), and Maternity Services Directorate from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled.

The Maternity Services Directorate delivers services at four hospitals, University Hospital Kerry, Cork University Maternity Hospital, South Tipperary General Hospital and University Hospital Waterford.

Purpose of Post:

Head of Operations (General Manager) will provide day to day operational management of the Maternity Services Directorate and will contribute to the strategic development of Maternity Services Directorate

Details of Service

The South/ South West Hospital Group (S/SWHG) provides acute hospital and maternity services to a population of approximately 1.2 million, with ten acute hospitals operating across the counties of Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Tipperary and Kilkenny.

The Hospital Group serves and provides a wide range of inpatient, day case and ambulatory care services. The group has 2,139 inpatient beds and 382 day beds.

The ten hospitals under the group are:

• Cork University Hospital

• Cork University Maternity Hospital

• University Hospital Waterford

• University Hospital Kerry

• Mercy University Hospital

• Tipperary University Hospital

• South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital

• Bantry General Hospital

• Mallow General Hospital

• Lourdes Orthopaedic Hospital, Kilcreene

The primary academic partner for the SSWHG is University College Cork.

The maternity directorate in the South/South West Hospital Group, now referred to as Ireland South Women & Infants Directorate, has been over 5 years in operation. The Maternity Directorate was .formally established in 2017 with clinical and executive authority over maternity, gynaecology and neonatology services in Cork. The Directorate is led by the Director for Maternity Services (Professor John R. Higgins).

The Maternity Services Directorate carries responsibility for Maternity, Gynaecology and Neonatal services across the S/SWHG.

This directorate leads the way as the first and only maternity directorate in Ireland. Cork University Maternity Hospital is the tertiary centre, with the maternity units of Tipperary University Hospital, University Hospital Kerry and University Hospital Waterford completing the directorate.

Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) incorporates Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology Services. These services are delivered within the Directorate of Women and Infants in the South/South West Hospital Group which is based on the principles of partnership and integration and strongly supports the involvement of the multidisciplinary team in service provision.

There are on average 7,500 births per annum at CUMH. Approximately 96,000 patients attend the Outpatients Department annually. The Emergency Department is a 24 hour service for Obstetrics and Gynaecology seeing over 18,000 patients per annum.
