Investigative Assistant (drug Task Force)
Job description
Incumbent will be responsible for producing work products in order to assist with investigations in the Drug Task Force.
Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED. At least two (2) years of related experience preferred. Must have a valid Ohio driver's license and a clean criminal record. Incumbent must have a highly collaborative approach, be creative, inquisitive, possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), have a positive attitude, and be a self-starter. Incumbent must also be a notary public in Ohio (this can be obtained after hire).
- Review reports of drug activity, drug arrests and drug overdoses and forward any necessary reports for assignment to a detective sergeant;
- Document case assignments in records management system and maintain divisional database of current case assignments;
- Create and maintain divisional statistics as directed;
- Assist with investigations by researching evidence and intelligence received by utilizing various sources;
- Assist in organization of case files as directed;
- Review financial records obtained by subpoenas and place all pertinent information into spreadsheets;
- Process, issue, and follow up on all subpoena requests for detectives;
- Process all credit checks needed for criminal investigations;
- Maintain the detective division on-call calendar;
- Assist division in administrative functions of executing search warrants as necessary;
- Notarize any paperwork and/or charges that the detectives may have during their investigation;
- Pull all jail phone calls that may be needed by a detective for their investigation as requested;
- Copy all CD’s and DVD’s for detectives as requested;
- Download detective’s digital recorders that contain suspect interviews as requested;
- Create PowerPoint presentations for in-service training and public relation events;
- Process all closed cases;
- Request and maintain supplies for the division;
- Serve as primary point of contact for the drug task force
- Maintain radio contact with detectives in the field, providing investigative support as requested.
- Attends meetings as requested; and,
- Performs related Essential and Non-Essential functions as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Equipment : Incumbent operates the following equipment: computer and related software, printer, copier, facsimile machine, paper shredder, paper hole punch, multi-line phone.
Critical Skills/Expertise:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to concentrate under stress;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to operate a variety of communication and office equipment;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Familiarity with criminal investigations;
- Detail-oriented;
- Ability to navigate open sources (e.g. social media, online court records, etc.);
- Knowledge of other county entities;
- Knowledge of staff members to contact;
- Knowledge of Agency Policy and Procedures Manual.

No direct reports or Supervisory responsibility
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent has contact with co-workers, employees in the department, public and private sector employees, law enforcement personnel, institutional residents and the general public.
Physical Requirements: Incumbent performs mostly sedentary work which may require lifting up to fifteen (15) pounds occasionally
Physical Activity: Incumbent performs the following physical activities; reaching, walking, hearing, talking, and repetitive motion.
Visual Activity: Incumbent performs work where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach.
Job Location:
Incumbent works in a typical office setting and has limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
