This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful candidate will have the option to perform this role remotely at a location of their choosing within the United States, however, they may on occasion be expected to work on campus.
The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working outside New York State.

Who we are:
The IT Operations Analyst is part of the Production Control team in CIT’s Infrastructure group. This team ensures that Cornell's critical business processing runs successfully and in a timely manner. Production Control supports the university's core administrative systems - including Finance, Budget, HR, PeopleSoft, and Kuali - by ensuring their internal and external batch processing is successful. This team is a well-established remote team, working remotely for over a decade.
What you will do:
As the IT Operations Analyst you will understand and perform the operational aspects of our business while being focused on supporting the technical infrastructure. On the operational side you will focus on job monitoring for both workflow efficiencies and failures. You will also gather requirements for new requests, implement jobs, write documentation, and training peers. On the technical infrastructure side you will maintain the automated batch scheduling software (Tidal Automation) in a combination of Windows and linux environments. You will also do things like maintaining SSL certs, troubleshoot networking issues, and spend time keeping current with technology. At times, you will need to work outside standard university business hours to resolve outages, support system changes, or support critical work periods.
What you will be:
You are a proficient technologist who also has interpersonal communications and organizational skills. You have strong technical writing skills to maintain our libraries of documentation. You work well bridging the distance between people and technology, and you like solving complex problems.
Specifically, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of equivalent experience and education
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in IT operations or an equivalent role, including experience in a customer support environment.
- Proficiency with troubleshooting in Windows and Linux command-line environments
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking and firewalls
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a remote work environment
- Ability to be self-taught and employ independent research of automation.
In addition, you may bring:
- Comfort with using scripting languages such as Powershell or bash
- Experience with SSH Protocols and PKI
- Familiarity with file transfer protocols
- Knowledge of SQL
- Understanding of cloud object storage such as AWS S3
- Awareness of Enterprise Job Schedulers such as Tidal Automation
