Under general supervision of the Information Technology (IT), this position will assist in providing technology consulting, systems implementation, and technology support services to County departments. The Information Technology (IT) Support Assistant is responsible to coordinate and provide high-quality administrative support to the Information Technology Department provide first level troubleshooting support to end users, monitors the helpdesk, processes invoices and statements, maintains software and hardware inventories, and provides excellent customer service to all customers as first point of contact with the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides administrative support for and on behalf of the Information Technology department. Prepares reports and other documents including tables, charges, graphs, memos as needed and directed. Answers phone and directs calls to the appropriate person. Retrieves and files information and data as appropriate. Performs file searches, either manually or by computer. Sorts, screens, and distributes mail. Prepares outgoing mail. Answers routine correspondence. Responds to public and agency requests for departmental information. Send correspondence and complete mailings.
- Processes departmental accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Serves as the first point of contact for users seeking technical assistance over the phone, email, or departmental tracking system. Performs remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions. Determines the best solution based on the issue and details provided by users. Walks the user through the problem-solving process. Directs unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel. Provides accurate information on IT products or services. Performs inventory and asset management. Keeps database up to date with current inventory and provides reports to departments as requested when it’s time for replacements.
- Assists with Budget and Capital Budget tracking, renewals for hardware and software for operations.
- Coordinates and schedules meetings, trainings, and appointments for designated staff and departmental committees.
- Coordinates the use of audio visual (AV) equipment. Ensures equipment is functioning properly and ready for use. Troubleshoots as appropriate.
- Tracks and maintains contracts as part of Contract management.
- Promotes a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.
- Interacts positively with internal and external customers. ?Communicates and interacts effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.
- Performs the physical and mental demands of the position.
- Attends work during regularly scheduled hours.

- Participates in professional staff development. ?Participates in training and education opportunities to maintain and improve proficiency. ?Attends and participates in professional organizations. ?Reads appropriate journals and articles. ?Associates with agents and departments from other counties and states to learn about and maintain professionalism.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Working experience in PC hardware, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office; office support; help desk; or customer support experience;
- OR post-secondary education in administrative support, computer-related studies or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in administrative management, administrative office specialist, Business, Technology, or related field
- Experience in troubleshooting technical issues.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must comply with all federal and state laws and organizational and departmental policies and regulations.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive in the State of Minnesota.
- Must successfully complete a background check.?
- Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data. ?Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the not public data must be properly stored according to county policy and the Minnesota Statutes.
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening, weekend, and overtime hours may be required.

Wage/Salary Scale
Blue Earth County features a 12-Step Pay Plan. Our advertised salary ranges include all 12 Steps. Typically, a selected candidate will be offered either Step 1 or Step 2 of the salary range. Additional salary considerations are subject to negotiation and dependent on skills and experience directly related to the position.
Vacation Leave
Vacation accruals, utilization and payouts are detailed in the collective bargaining agreement and/or the employee handbook.
Sick Leave
Employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 7.34 hours for each full month of service.
Paid Holidays
Blue Earth County recognizes 10 (80 hours) paid holidays and employees receive one floating holiday per year.
Employees may choose from 3-health insurance plans and either single or family coverage.
Blue Earth County contributes to a health savings account (HSA) when the employee elects the HDHP. Single coverage HSA contributions equal $1,400 and family coverage HSA contributions equal $2,800.Life InsuranceEmployees are provided with Term-Life Insurance at no-cost to them:
- $20,000 term-life/$20,000 accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D)
- After 10 years of continuous employment with Blue Earth County, the policy will increase to $35,000 term-life/$35,000 AD&D
The County and the employee contribute to the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) based on a percent of the employee wage:
