Duties

As a Supervisory IT Specialist (INFOSEC) as a GS-14, you will complete the following duties:

  • Provide expert guidance to the planning, coordination, and development of specifications meeting security and privacy requirements at the agency or sub-agency level.
  • Monitor and evaluates systems' compliance with IT security and cyber security requirements.
  • Assign work based on priorities, requirements of assignments, and staff capabilities.
  • Provide first line communications, which includes problem determination, problem solutioning, and recommendations resolving IT systems, security, cyber security, and privacy issues.
  • Review work completed by subordinates, accepting, amending, or rejecting work as appropriate.

Qualifications

Basic Experience Requirements:

You must possess IT related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (e.g., IT certification), as appropriate) demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (i.e., any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (e.g., ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (e.g., technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience for the GS-14:

One year of experience equivalent to the GS-14 performing at least two (2) of the following three (3) duties or work assignments:

1. Experience providing support with the direction, oversight, and guidance to lower grade specialists and team members and helped ensure work was completed in a timely fashion.

2. Experience with organization of project team meetings, status reports, and updates to project management databases.

3. Experience analyzing an agency's program security and privacy needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
The quality of your experience will be measured by the extent to which you possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs). You do not need to provide separate narrative responses to these KSAs, as they will be measured by your responses to the occupational questionnaire (you may preview the occupational questionnaire by clicking the link at the end of the Evaluations section of this vacancy announcement).

1. Knowledge of federal infosec directives, policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

2. Skill in coordinating a variety of complex and unusual security issues with management and security officers.

3. Knowledge of server-level security concepts and methods ensuring the implementation of security policies and plans are a robust level of protection for applications and databases.

4. Skill in applying total infrastructure protection environment; and federal information systems security protocols sufficient to integrate information systems security with other security disciplines; and ensure collaboration on security activities.

5. Ability to plan, design, and deploy access management strategies, policies, and systems in an operating environment.

Education

This position does not have an education requirement, however a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, or information systems management is preferred.
