The International Trade Centre (ITC) assists micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) in developing countries and economies in transition countries to take advantage of expanding trade opportunities in an increasingly complex global environment. The Strategic Planning, Performance and Governance Section (SPPG) is part of the Office of the Executive Director (OED). It is responsible for corporate performance management, planning and reporting; evaluation; as well as governance and donor relations.
The goal of this position is to strengthen ITC's intelligence of, visibility, and influence in, the UN environment in New York, to position ITC strategically in the global development arena and secure resources for implementing the organization’s mandate.
An efficient running of the ITC Office in New York including financial, programmatic, representational, liaison, reporting and administrative tasks.
Support of ITC’s Executive Director and Senior Managers in their on-line and in-person engagements with important stakeholders
- Identify and assess opportunities for high-impact missions to NY / the US, and for on-line engagements
- Prepare proposals for mission schedules, and organize meetings and interventions in discussion with ITC headquarters (HQ)
- Prepare briefings, minutes, and execute follow-up
Drive ITC's engagement in important UN processes, committees, working groups, reports and events
- Build awareness of ITC and its mandate among key stakeholders
- Identify engagement priorities and opportunities and plan the work schedule with ITC HQ
- Represent ITC and make statements on behalf of ITC to ensure that ITC, and /or development opportunities linked to MSME and trade development are recognized, considered and strengthened
- Identify and secure opportunities for ITC’s involvement in relevant meetings and events
- Design and execute ITC events and events' participation in collaboration with relevant ITC teams
- Ensure ITC inputs in key UN reports in collaboration with relevant ITC teams
- As guided by ITC HQ, act as ITC's focal point and facilitate ITC's planning, budget related and administrative matters with the Secretariat
Collect and convey relevant UN / US intelligence to Senior Management and ITC subject matter experts
- Develop a network of contacts to provide ITC with timely strategic and operational intelligence
- Participate in relevant meetings in NY and Washington DC
- Analyze information and communicate key messages through selected channels, mindful of timeliness and the needs of the audience
- Collect information and prepare briefing notes on topics specified by OED
- Prepare regular office reports for OED and Senior Management
Build and strengthen relationships in relevant US-based UN and other bodies
- Build awareness of ITC and its mandate through representing ITC in relevant meetings and events of NY and Washington DC based development actors
- Increase Permanent Missions' knowledge of ITC
- Feed-back information about partnership and resource mobilization opportunities to ITC HQ
- Perform other duties as required

Advanced university degree in international relations, development studies, economics, management, law, social sciences, communication, or related disciplines required.
A first-level university degree in the above fields, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least 7 years of relevant work experience in a multilateral organization or diplomatic service is required.
Experience in strategic and operational planning, analysis, management advisory services,
communication with funders and partners is required.
Experience in representing an organization and/or establishing organizational partnerships is required.
Experience producing communication materials and/or briefing notes is required.
Previous experience in the UN common system is desirable
Experience in resource mobilization and advocacy is desirable
For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
