Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

Position Overview:

Pratt & Whitney Oklahoma City is seeking a skilled and experienced Jet Engine Production Test Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the testing, evaluation, manufacturing production process engineering work of the Pratt & Whitney F117 jet engine, which is used in military cargo aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster III. The engineer will work closely with a team of technicians, mechanics, and other engineers to ensure a safe and quality product during all phases (disassembly, repair, assembly, and testing) of the jet engine repair process at the maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Read and provide interpretation of Engine Overhaul Manuals, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, Standard Practice Manual, Blueprints and Component Maintenance Manuals as necessary to support production.
  • Participate in teams reviewing and investigating process breakdowns; perform root cause and corrective action on parts and processes that are not in control.
  • Develop and/or utilize robust standard work and desktop procedures for HMC PE and Test processes.
  • Provide timely work scope definitions for engine and/or module repair that are comprehensive, clear, concise, cost effective, and meets customer-defined requirements.
  • Approve complex work control documents used for maintaining engine/module hardware.
  • Provide disposition to work requests/work package changes using standard work processes and approved technical references for released work control documents.
  • Provide technical assistance when verification of proper configuration of engine/module hardware is needed.
  • Aid in training mechanics on new tech data that has become available.
  • Perform any other related functions or support other MRO production lines as required by management to ensure the success of the enterprise.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute engine testing in accordance with applicable safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Analyze test data and provide recommendations to improve performance.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine performance issues and develop solutions for repair.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure engines meet performance requirements and test objectives.
  • Document and communicate test results and analysis to stakeholders, including senior management, and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians.
  • Prepare shop visit reports and supply to the customer within the stipulated time frame.
  • Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • At least 5 years of experience in jet engine testing, preferably with the P&W F117 or similar engines.
  • Experience with engine controls and instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test cell operations.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience in gas turbine performance testing and analysis, required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write concise, easy-to-understand technical work instructions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Must be willing to work 1st (0700-1600) or 2nd (1400-2300) shift and work extra time as necessary to ensure completion of assigned tasks. May be called in off-hours to answer process-related questions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Engineering Technology degrees accepted) and minimum 2 years’ work experience required.
  • Candidates with 6 plus years of experience in jet engine testing, preferably with the P&W F117 or similar engines may be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree.
  • Experience with engine controls and instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test cell operations.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience in gas turbine performance testing and analysis, required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write concise, easy-to-understand technical work instructions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Must be willing to work 1st (0700-1600) or 2nd (1400-2300) shift and work extra time as necessary to ensure completion of assigned tasks. May be called in off-hours to answer process-related questions.
  • US Citizenship required due to government contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 plus years process or manufacturing engineering experience on gas-turbine engines preferred, operational experience in an MRO engine facility.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Solumina, Component Maintenance Manual, F117 Engine Manual and P&W Standard Practice Manual.
