Lab Technical Specialist - Chemistry/Immunoassay
The Technical Specialist will be responsible for meeting or exceeding all CLIA and CAP standards for these areas including: Policy and procedure development; Instrument installation, validation, maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, linearities, calibrations and correlations; Operator competency development and annual assessment; Daily operations troubleshooting and vendor support communications and documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Responsibility of Clinical Lab – Chemistry
- Recommend the selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results;
- Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory’s test performance characteristics, including precision, accuracy, linearity/AMR and reference ranges of each test and test system;
- Enrollment and participation in an HHS approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered;
- Establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results;
- Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications; Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
- Identifying training needs and assuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed;
- Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.
- Acts and supports the hematology services of the Clinical Labs.
CLIENT SERVICES
- Assist to create and maintain online laboratory catalog synchronizing naming convention of tests between LIS, EMR, and Reference Laboratories.
- Assist in definition and rollout in computer systems of new tests.
- Maintain correct specimen type definitions and label designs in LIS.
- Assist in validation of new LIS and EMR tests and upgrades to ensure quality integrity of testing is not diminished.
- Support LIS Support Analyst in following outstanding testing to completion; answering questions from providers, providers’ offices, and reference laboratories
- Assist with questions and requests for new or esoteric testing; Design pathway for specimen to be sent to the outside laboratory.
- Respond to provider questions and concerns before end of day each day, escalate as needed to Laboratory Manager and Medical Director.
- Support LIS analyst(s) and administrator in defining new tests and updating laboratory catalog.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Problem solving skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of laboratory standards to meet CLIA requirements.
- Ability to write and communicate clearly.
- Excellent communication skills to establish working relationships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS in Clinical Lab-related discipline, MLS (ASCP) or equivalent.
- At least one year of laboratory experience in a high complexity testing laboratory.
Pay Range:
$30.70 - $46.05
