Overview
As the laboratory technician in the Tirlán Central Laboratory, situated at Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, the role will involve working with a dedicated team of technicians, laboratory manager and related staff to carry out a range of Chemistry and Microbiology analyses relevant to milk quality control and quality assurance. This is a 12-month fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

Raw Milk analysis including a range of:
Chemistry methods including FTIR, Gerber, Kjeldahl;
Antibiotic/ Inhibitor analysis;
Microbiological methods including Testing of private well water, SPC, culture methods;
Rapid Microbiology Tests: Bactoscan, Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA), PCR, LCMS/MS;
Excellent completion of all documentation and maintenance of records;
Successful implementation and participation in internal and external proficiency tests;
Equipment cleaning, maintenance and calibration;
Day to day maintenance of laboratory hygiene standards;
Timely escalation of non-conformances or potential non-conformances including participation in laboratory investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

The laboratory is fully accredited to CLAS. The technician will be required to participate in in-house training, the quality assurance system, accreditation process and internal audits .

Key Requirements:
A third level qualification in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry or equivalent quality related course.
Knowledge of and track record in the Agri/Dairy sector;
A good communicator and ability to work as part of a team;
Excellent IT skills;
An ability to interpret test data and problem-solving skills;
Track record of Lean Manufacturing an advantage;
Flexible and dynamic with good organisational ability;
Willingness to do further relevant training and improvement.
