Lab Technician I - Media
Location: Lenexa, KS
Job Summary and Purpose:
The Laboratory Technician I will work directly with a range of technologies and equipment including batching tanks, scales, computer systems, integrity testers and filtration skids. This position will also work directly with media preparation, autoclaves, pH monitoring and sterilization techniques following aseptic technique and cGMP procedures.
Responsibilities and Key Duties:
- Set up and turnaround of all process equipment.
- Prepare media components.
- Operations of filtration systems up to and including integrity testing.
- pH adjustment and calibration.
- Experience with large stainless steel mixing vessels.
- Aseptic Techniques.
- Operate general production equipment such as Autoclaves, Incubators, pumps, scales, pH/conductivity meters, etc.
- Solution preparations.
- Operations of multiple batching vessels up to and including CIP and SIP procedures.
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of the laboratories.
- Participate in writing standard operation procedures (SOPs) and batch production records (BPRs).
- Document and maintain activity records according to cGMP regulations.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with others.
- Perform all other duties assigned.

Technical / Functional Competencies:
- Excellent writing and communication, interpersonal and organization skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Good self-discipline and attention to details
- Must follow proper documentation procedures
- Must be able to work both independently and in a fast pace team environment
- Good math and computer skills
- Must have flexible work hours, and be willing to work outside of normal, scheduled hours; as necessary
- Must be able to work alternative shift hours and weekends as required
- Must possess planning and time-management skills, excellent oral and written communication skills
Qualifications:
Education
- Associate Degree in life-science field or
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and at least one-year of work experience in a cGMP environment preferred
Work Experience – Related scientific, animal field work experience or experience in lab environment preferred
Other (consider certifications, specialized knowledge and/or training, etc.) –
Physical Requirements:
- Able to read, write, and communicate in English
- Experience prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders and stretching
- Lift up to 25 pound frequently and up to 50 pounds on occasions
- Use hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment, opening and closing manual values, laboratory equipment
- Visual inspection
- Daily dressing and operating in clean room required garments
