Job Summary
The Center for Environmental Systems Analysis (CESA), a unit of the Environmental Engineering Program and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, seeks a laboratory manager to support education, research, and service activities.
CESA supports education and research at the University of Colorado Boulder and provides technical services related to complex environmental and regulatory problems. Office space is in the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Community (SEEC), and the CESA analytical laboratory is in the SEEL Building.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Primary duties associated with this position will include management of the CESA analytical laboratory and laboratory personnel, support for teaching and research, and support for service activities. Specific duties will include project management, analytical work in the laboratory, training and supervision of students and research personnel, oversight of quality analysis and quality control, data entry, data analysis, help with water-quality modeling, help with preparation of proposals and technical reports, and some field work. Other duties also may be required.
Typical work days will include a mix of office work and laboratory work, with occasional field work and travel to meetings. Some work days may be long, particularly when field work is required. Also, participation in field work may involve overnight travel, travel to remote locations, and work in adverse weather conditions.
What We Can Offer
The annual salary range associated with the position is $54,000 to $78,000. Relocation assistance may be available with this position but is not guaranteed.

What We Require
A Bachelor's degree in ecology, chemistry, environmental engineering, or a related field is required. Professional experience in analytical chemistry and ecological field methods, strong quantitative skills, the ability to swim, and a safe driving record also are required.
This position will offer opportunities for independent and collaborative research. Therefore, the position is intended for someone with an interest in research related to ecology, biogeochemistry, and environmental engineering.
Because of supervisory requirements and the need for collaboration, working from home on a routine basis will not be feasible with this position.
What You Will Need
We seek someone with broad experience in analytical chemistry, ecological field methods, data management, and project management. To be successful in this position, you must be adaptable, work well independently and in collaboration with others, have a strong work ethic, and work safely, carefully, and efficiently.
What We Would Like You to Have
The following experience is strongly preferred, but not required: 1) a Master's degree or PhD in ecology, chemistry, environmental engineering, or a related field, 2) experience with manual wet-chemistry methods for nutrient analysis, 3) experience with a wide range of analytical instruments, 4) experience with water-quality modeling, 5) familiarity with water-quality control regulations, 6) proficiency with relevant computer software, (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel, JMP, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity Creative Software), 7) familiarity with standard practices for quality analysis and quality control, 8) experience with experimental design, 9) experience with technical writing, and 10) experience with teaching and supervision.
