Position Description
Provide analytical services for customers from various departments throughout the company. Comply with all ASTM, USEPA and SCDHEC requirements for instrumental analysis, including Quality Control/Quality Assurance protocols to insure legally defensible data for regulatory and operational requirements. Serve as subject matter expert for all departments in Environmental Laboratory. Works independently and receives minimal guidance from Manager of Analytical Services.
Essential Job Tasks:
Responsible for metals laboratory analysis of samples from a variety of customers in a range of matrices including but not limited to: ground water, drinking water, surface water, solid and hazardous waste, boiler water, and transformer oil.
Performs metal analysis of samples from start to finish to include sample receiving, sample log in, sample preparation, preparation of standards, creating sample worksheets in instrument software, calibration of instrumentation, running instrumentation, reviewing data, exporting data to Labworks, preparing reports, and preparing files for final quality review.
Works in collaboration with other environmental lab personnel to ensure samples are completed and reported in required time frame.
Implements and maintains all quality assurance and quality control necessary as mandated by all certified methods.
Reviews data and ensures that all quality control parameters meet SCDHEC and USEPA requirements.
Corrects quality control issues and report violations to supervision immediately.
Responsible for working knowledge of instrumentation in each area of environmental laboratory.
Responsible for preventative and routine maintenance on all equipment in environmental laboratory.
Responsible for diagnosis of instrumentation problems and repairs equipment as needed.
Schedules service visits and works with manufacturer as required.
Completes initial demonstration of capability for all certified methods in environmental laboratory.
Maintains certification by completing CDOCs, IDLs, MDLs, and annual proficiency testing.
Participates in routine and certification audits as required.
Obtains new certifications in assigned area due to regulatory mandates.
Researches and obtains new certifications based on business need.
Maintains chemical and laboratory supply inventory.
Orders sample collection supplies as necessary from contract laboratory or vendor.
Orders chemicals and other laboratory materials as needed from vendor.
Trains and assists new team members when necessary.
Assists fuels lab personnel with analytics, maintenance instrumentation, and validating data as needed.
Works with customers to schedule sampling events, prepare and supply sample containers, and serve as subject matter expert.
Completes all mandated training for self and ensure all mandated training is completed by summer students/interns.
Complies with all company safety and operational policies.
Position Requirements
Will consider Laboratory Specialist I, II or III.
Laboratory Specialist III
Bachelor's Degree + 4 years directly related experience or Associate's Degree + 6 years directly related experience or High School Diploma + 10 years directly related experience.
Experience required in metals laboratory instrumentation to include ICP-OES and ICP-MS
Experience in Laboratory Quality Control/Quality Assurance protocol preferred.
Must be able to solve complex problems without seeking help from supervision.
Compensation Information:
$75,600 - $94,490 (min. -mid.)
Laboratory Specialist II
Bachelor's Degree + 2 years directly related experience or Associate's Degree + 4 years directly related experience or High School Diploma + 8 years directly related experience.
Must have working knowledge of precision analytical laboratory protocols.
Experience required in metals laboratory instrumentation to include ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
Knowledge of laboratory quality control/quality assurance requirements preferred.
Compensation Information:
$60,820 - $76,020 (min. - mid.)
Laboratory Specialist I
Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree + 2 years directly related experience or High School Diploma +5 years directly related experience.
Must have working knowledge of precision analytical laboratory protocols.
Knowledge of laboratory quality control/quality assurance requirements preferred.
Compensation Information:
$48,920 - $61,140 (min. - mid.)
