NEEDED: Laboratory Technician

LOCATION: 1200 Texas Street, Houston, TX 77002

SCHEDULE / HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday between 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have completed a formal Laboratory Technician Training Program (or similar) with at least 6 months of course credit and satisfactorily completed internship.
• Must have at least 1 year of Laboratory Technician
• Must have or obtain a current CPR certification.
• Must possess knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems and of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
• Possess the ability to relate and deal effectively with Physicians, peers, inmates, and others; to recognize, report, and record changes in patient’s physical and emotional condition; and to administer medication.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Draws blood from patients in open, semi-open and locked units, which will require direct contact with inmates for analysis or other medical purposes.
• Collect and process Urinalysis, collection of DNA specimens.
• Will assist primary providers in the urgent care room when necessary.
• Receive inmate passes, pull, file, and copy medical records and maintain supplies in all exam rooms.
• Maintain daily appointments for testing.
• Maintaining sanitation in work area.
• Accountability of the needle/syringe inventory
• Properly documenting lab request logs, completing related paperwork, and utilizing government equipment.
• Conduct routine equipment checks.
