About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
The Lead Building Mechanic performs all the duties of a Building Mechanic A (leads and participates in the inspection, maintenance, diagnoses and repair, installation and modification of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and other building/facility systems at various locations as needed) as well as providing technical oversight to support the Team in the delivery of maintenance projects and construction-related activities supporting facility operations and/or functions. There is a primary focus on safety and teamwork in getting the work completed. The objectives are to ensure building assets are maintained to achieve maximum useful life and safe operation, and to deliver new project work that is consistent with and enhances the facility operation and maintainability.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for performing various skilled activities required in the operation and maintenance of a variety of building facilities and equipment.
- Participates in all company safety programs and practices, and promotes safe work methods in all activities. Maintains a high level of safety commitment throughout day-to-day functions.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Company's safety philosophy, its principles, and rules which govern safe working practices and the ability to work and direct work safely and in full compliance with these philosophies, principles, and rules.
- Manages all work efforts directly related to the critical infrastructure for the locations assigned.
- Oversees the development, continuous operation and maintenance of all building systems effecting the critical operations.
- Schedules preventive maintenance work and maintains records of preventative maintenance work.
- Performs work assignments for the locations assigned including breakdown maintenance, corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, room set-ups, service requests, jurisdictional inspections, and others as needed.
- Installs and maintains plumbing, piping and fixtures for heating, water supply, sprinkler and water systems serving washrooms, photographic laboratories, vending machines and cafeterias.
- Installs and maintains commercial kitchen equipment, including steamers, grills, ovens, dishwashers, disposals, ice machines, walk-in freezers and coolers.
- Conducts regular inspections of equipment to ensure the facility is being maintained to the highest standards.
- Updates drawings, schematics, building files, etc., ensuring that all changes related to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are incorporated.
- Monitors daily operation of energy management systems at all facilities, including personal computer as requested on weekends and holidays.
- Installs electrical wiring and equipment of lighting, power supply and complex control systems involving voltages up to 440 volts.
- Performs regular scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment. This normally consists of changing out filters, replacing drive belts, and inspection of components.
- Purchases supplies, materials, tools necessary for the operation and maintenance of the facility.
- Installs and removes mobile and permanent partitions, frames openings and hangs doors and sash: installs woodwork trim and moldings; installs and repairs floor tiles, carpet tiles, acoustical and plastic ceiling; and repairs concrete floors and sidewalks.
- Constructs, repairs, refinishes and installs complex woodworking projects, including cabinets, office furniture, desks tables, chairs, etc.
- Manages work performed by FirstEnergy maintenance crews in the absence of the Building Services Lead and outside contractors.
- Utilizes the Facilities Work Management and Planned Maintenance systems to perform and close on-demand and preventive maintenance work.
- Ensures all inspections, testing and certification for mechanical, electrical, plumbing etc., systems are completed as required and permits displayed and reissued on a timely basis.
- Ensure change management protocols are followed.
- Must be able to work shift work and overtime as assigned; must be able to work scheduled weekends shifts.
- Respond to support operational and emergency situations 24/7.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Building Mechanic A.
- Experience to include controls systems, supervisory systems, and demonstrated experience to lead contractors and employees.
- Possess CFC, National Electric Code, and Fork Truck Certifications.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing and able to travel within the regional service territory.
- Must be able to read and work from blueprints.
- Must be physically capable of lifting up to 75 pounds and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Must be proficient with PC software including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and interact with facility management software programs.
- Communicates information on equipment and systems to team members or contractors both in oral and written forms.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan, coordinate, and lead a job from start to finish.
- May be required to work variable shifts which include evenings, weekends and holidays, if necessary.
