Job Summary
The Guadalupe Montessori School seeks an experienced, trained Primary guide who is interested in joining a passionate, dedicated team of educators in beautiful Southwest New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have been in a Montessori classroom for at least one 3 year cycle, and have an interest in whole school systems and leadership. A genuine love of children, a patient and stable demeanor, and the ability to be proactive and flexible are highly valued characteristics of our new Primary Guide! The teaching position begins in August of 2023. The Guadalupe Montessori School was founded in 1979, is located in Silver City, New Mexico, and has no religious affiliation. Responsibilities and Duties
The Lead Primary Guide has the following duties, outlined in the job description:
- Conduct and maintain the Primary classroom according to the principles, philosophy and practice of Montessori education.
- Consult with the Director of the school regarding the overall functioning of the classroom on a regular basis.
- Maintain the Primary classroom in good order, keeping the environment clean and organized, providing appropriate materials and purchasing supplies. Notify the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of any needed repairs to the classroom.
- Maintain current First Aid/CPR card. Know the emergency procedures of the school.
- Be responsible for the safety and physical well being of the children at all times. Children are not to be left unattended.
- Know and follow the policies of the school as written in the Parent Handbook, the Employee Handbook, and as agreed upon by the staff and the Director.
- Know the Child Care Division’s regulations and requirements for the safe running of a care facility and ensure the program’s adherence to them.
- Notify the Director of the school of any program needs or problems, difficulties with students, parents, or other GMS staff members.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, lesson plans, children’s work records and evaluations, ensure requirements for FOCUS program are met.
- Attend regular staff meetings, faculty meetings, and retreats as scheduled by the Director.
- Oversee training and monitor performance of classroom assistants, substitutes, and in-class parent volunteers.
- Work cooperatively with and provide peer support to fellow GMS teachers.
- Write parent notices as needed. Distribute as necessary other notices, such as permission slips, incident reports.
- Provide articles and information for biweekly school newsletter and other publications (e.g., town newspaper).
- Organize parent education sessions and give presentations to the parent community as requested by the Director.
- Take an active role in public relations, outreach, and advertising as requested.
- Attend parent meetings as necessary and requested.
- Assure positive parent-teacher relationships and encourage classroom observations.
- Act as the first point of contact for parent grievances.
- Draft and maintain a comprehensive record of the coming school year, including holidays, parent education sessions, in-service days, conferences, etc.
- Conduct short term planning and scheduling (e.g., ordering supplies and materials, arranging a venue for graduation, parent education sessions, etc.)
- Help with other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
Montessori Diploma in Primary for ages 3-6
Bachelor’s degree
Ongoing education as required by the State of New Mexico
CPR and Basic First Aid training
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Classroom management experience and a demonstrated passion and talent for working with children.
Preferred:
Prior experience as lead-guide in an Montessori classroom

Pay: $35,000.00 - $37,500.00 per year
