Regional One Health is currently seeking a full-time Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician for our Inpatient Pharmacy.
Summary: Performs various technical functions and activities relating to preparing, packaging, drug distribution, IV admixtures, distribution and record-keeping of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances. Technical functions are expanded to include workflow process proficiency, problem solving skills, and quality improvement involvement. Collaborates with Lead Pharmacist and/or Manager to manage daily workflow proficiency. Able to provide targeted feedback to coach technicians to improve efficiency and address technician concerns in an appropriate manner.
Education Requirement:
Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent education.
Experience Requirement:
Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of a Pharmacy Technician program or one (1) year previous experience as Pharmacy Technician.
Licensure/Certification Requirement:
Current documentation as Certified Pharmacy Technician and license to work in state of TN as Pharmacy Technician. National Certification from PTCB or NHA required.
1. Provides assistance and performs technical pharmacy services under supervision of licensed pharmacist and in accordance with
established policies and procedures.
- Prepares unit dose medications and fills unit dose carts.
- Calculates, weighs, and compounds ingredients to prepare non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
- Prepares, labels, and documents IV products.
- Uses aseptic techniques and the laminar flow hood in preparing and labeling syringes, IV admixtures, and sterile products.
- Packages and appropriately labels all dosage forms used in the pharmacy by using appropriate pharmacy packaging,
- Documents medication orders.
- Delivers patient medication orders to units.
- Maintains required prescription/medication and other department records.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide technical services and maintain clinical competency as required to effectively

2. Prepares and fills prescriptions and medication orders, maintaining appropriate legal and departmental records; computes records,
patient charges and credits patients for unused drugs.
- Reads physician’s prescribed medication orders specifying name, quantity, strength, frequency, and method of administration of
- Selects the medication from pre-packaged or unit dose stock and counts the prescribed quantity.
- Places the drug in appropriate patient medication drawer/bin.
- Presents filled order to the Pharmacist for review.
- Post charges into computer system from the medication administration record and other charge documents.
- Adjusts patient profile accordingly to reflect physician’s desire to continue or discontinue said drug.
- Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
- Utilizes computer and related equipment to enter and retrieve information.
4. Receives, transports, and stores necessary pharmacy-related items to and from pharmacy areas as well as to and from other
hospital pharmacies and nursing units as assigned.
5. Assists in inventory control including ordering stock rotation and return of outdated medications.
- Maintains perpetual inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the dispensing areas assigned and stores the drugs appropriately.
- Replenish medicine carts for nursing units; restocks nursing units and ancillary departments; checks for outdated, deteriorated
- Reviews drug usage records to examine for unusual or high usage.
- Orders supplies and stocks under proper conditions.

7. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department
and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).

- Interacts and communicates in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and
- Works collaboratively with medical/hospital staff and patients to coordinate and implement activities.
9. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment to minimize risk to patients and staff by complying with all safety/risk management
policies and procedures. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and safety, environment and infection
control standards.
10. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
11. Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
12. Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuous
pharmacy coverage as required.
13. Provides guidance, mentoring, and back up for the other technicians and assists the Pharmacy manager or lead pharmacist with
assignment of work, training, and mentoring as needed to maintain efficient patient care.
14. Performs addtional duties and responsibilities as required.
In addition the Lead Pharmacy Technician (Medplex Pharmacy) performs the following responsibility:
1. Checks patient identification and issues filled medication to outpatients.
2. Provides assistance to customers/patient in the purchase of over-the-counter items.
3. Perform cashier functions and collects payment from Medplex patients.
4. Responds to customer/patient inquiries.
5. Assists in the supervision of technician workflows to optimize efficiency and productivity.
6. Participates in hiring process of new technicians and staff pharmacists.
7. Provides actionable feedback and follow-up on performance with other technicians.
8. Assists lead pharmacist or pharmacy manager in preparing schedule for technicians.
9. Engages in pharmacy quality improvement projects.
10. Coaches Premier Expectations, Behaviors, and Etiquette for all inpatient technicians.
11. Ensures returned medications are credited and restocked on a daily basis.
12. Assists with inventory management as needed.
13. Manages workflow along with Lead Pharmacist.
14. Coordinates with pharmacist(s) on duty to prioritize essential tasks.
15. Addresses concerns amongst staff in conjunction with Lead Pharmacist and Manager as needed.
16. Leads orientation for new hires in conjunction with Lead Pharmacist and Manager.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- An ability and willingness to apply technical knowledge and skills and maintain clinical competency required to implement patient
preparing pharmaceutical products, transcribing and excerpting drug orders from patient medication records, inventory control,
and interact with computer systems.
- Excellent mathematical skills required for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively/professionally with hospital staff, patients, family,

Supervision Provided by this Job:
Provides leadership by planning, directing and leading the activities of assigned staff.
- Constant standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling to perform rounds, fill carts, and access supplies.
- Manual dexterity to compound IV's and performs data entry.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Schedule: Full-time, Day shift, Various, primarily 6:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.
