Essential Functions
Lender/Teller Onboarding and Development - Course Facilitation and Mentoring
This role serves as a primary facilitator and mentor for the Retail Onboarding Program. Together with the program owners, the L&D Specialist provides critical support and guidance to new hires and their managers and mentors to ensure the newest members of Summit Credit Union have a positive onboarding experience, quickly assimilate to SCU’s culture, and feel like contributing members of the team. Program success is dependent upon the L&D Specialist’s ability to:
- Secure course logistics and prepare all course materials,
- Serve as a primary facilitator of operations courses via in-person (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (vILT)
- Travel to branches as needed to mentor participants and support managers in coaching the application of learning
- Deliver clear, timely and effective communications to managers, mentors and participants
- Support the coaching of Retail Support/Learning Liaisons and Subject Matter Experts on training delivery, and effective mentoring
- Maintain the integrity of lender/teller courses by advising course owners of product, service, procedural and regulatory changes that impact course content
- Support course owners in conducting regular audits that:
- Ensure objectives align with business needs, and
- Increase stakeholder engagement and support
- Ensure the integrity of program results, by monitoring the completion of pre-work, evaluations, surveys, and other measures
Employee Financial Education Coordinator - Course Facilitation and Reporting
This role serves as a primary facilitator and coordinator for the Employee Financial Education Curriculum. Together with L&D and the Financial Empowerment team, the L&D Specialist provides critical support and guidance to employees to empower them to apply Summit’s Tips personally to better manage their finances and inspire others to do the same. Program success is dependent upon the L&D Specialist’s ability to:
- Secure course logistics and prepare all course materials,
- Serve as a primary facilitator of courses via in-person (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (vILT)
- Deliver clear, timely and effective communications to managers, mentors, and participants
- Support the transition of employees requesting a personal financial coach
- Maintain the integrity of courses by advising course owners of product, service, procedural and regulatory changes that impact course content
- Support course owners in conducting regular audits that:
- Ensure objectives align with business needs, and
- Increase stakeholder engagement and support
- Ensure the integrity of program results, by monitoring the completion of pre-work, evaluations, surveys, and other measures
Instructional Design & Learning Technology Support (for E-Learning & Consulting Projects)
The L&D Specialist has a passion for growing their skills in learning systems and instructional design to enhance the learner experience. With the support and guidance of the LX Designer & Learning Systems Technologist the L&D Specialist will:
- Support the development and execution of needs-based solutions for a variety of learner segments that may include: new hires, employee resource groups, sales/service teams, system users, leadership cohorts, and more
- Using design and content creation software, design e-learning solutions that enable a blended, interactive learning experience that aligns with SCUs culture and strategic priorities
- Curate and continuously monitor SCUs e-learning content to maintain the integrity of e-learning solutions
- Research ID trends, identify best practices and develop learning solutions for instructional design and delivery improvements using multi-media, adult learning theory and e-learning techniques
- Build and test learning assets in the LMS (i.e. courses, e-learning, materials, videos, curricula, etc.)
- Serve as a SME on projects as assigned, supporting established timeframes, scope, and resources
This position also:
- Contributes to the creation of a learning environment that fosters effective adult learning opportunities and supports desired performance outcomes
- Serves as a secondary trainer for additional Retail and Business Services courses
- Supports the Senior L&D Specialist in strengthening the mentoring component of the onboarding journey to identify, nurture and equip mentors across the organization
- Ensures the integrity of LMS data related to courses owned including accurate course descriptions and objectives, session availability, attendance, etc. Runs basic reports as needed for the creation of program reporting
- Promotes awareness of learning resources through effective communications leveraging the appropriate channel(s) at the appropriate time, ensuring alignment with the Extended Communications Team’s calendar
- Participates in team meetings to share knowledge and make sure team members are informed of developments in programs, projects, and initiatives
- Participates in Employee Financial Education team meetings
- Evaluates the effectiveness of training solutions using appropriate methodologies (i.e., ROI Methodology or Kirkpatrick’s Levels of Evaluation)
- Actively participates on project teams for new and updated products/services, technologies, etc. as requested. Works closely and collaboratively with the project team fostering positive working relationships
- Spend time in branches, the Contact Center and other member-contact areas to enhance expertise, observing employee/member interactions and providing job coaching and feedback as appropriate
Additional Functions
- Monitor trends and regulatory changes within the learning specialist’s specialized area of knowledge.
- Research, assess, determine, and implement quality, process and productivity improvements.
- The Learning & Development Specialist does not have direct reports; however, this position is responsible for general supervision of employees throughout the training period, including:
- Enforcement of employee guidelines
- Training and instruction
- Assignment and review of work
- Acting on employee issues
- Comply with all requirements of BSA, OFAC and the USA Patriot Act/Customer Identification Act (CIP).
- Assist with additional projects and other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
Job Specifications
- One to three years of related lending, retail branch, or related organization wide talent development experience required.
- Summit branch or other member-facing department experience strongly preferred.
- Must have professional, well-developed written and oral communication skills necessary for developing and delivering training to new and current employees
- Have a strong knowledge of the credit union positions and functions
- Significant experience and demonstrated ability related to public speaking, presentation and facilitation skills is required
- Must have extensive knowledge of adult training methods, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Solid judgment is required. Must analyze complicated factual situations, apply functional principles, and develop solutions
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Resources or a related field, or the equivalent work experience required
- APTD (Associate Professional in Talent Development) certification preferred.
- Intermediate mathematical skills required (arithmetic calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
- Proficiency using the following Microsoft software is required including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Demonstrated proficiency using some or all the following software and applications is preferred (or willingness to acquire):
- Microsoft Teams (and Apps)
- Adobe Captivate
- Articulate Storyline and Rise
- Adobe Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator
- Web-conferencing software (i.e., WebEx, Zoom, Teams)
- Learning Management Systems (SumTotal, Cornerstone, Degreed, etc.)
