The School of Criminal Justice, Rutgers University invites applications for Part-Time Lecturer (PTL) teaching positions in the undergraduate and MA programs during the Fall 2023 Semester.
Successful applicants will develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses on a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to, the following: criminal justice systems; justice studies; policing; research methods; local crime; race, crime, and justice; white-collar crime; violence; crime in different cultures; corrections; courts; inequality; ethics; and special topics in justice across various domains (polity, economy, environmental, etc.).
Instructors shall prepare and submit course syllabi, meet and provide pedagogically appropriate instruction during assigned class times, provide timely student feedback, respond to student emails, adhere to grade submission policies and deadlines, and if the option is available, attend an orientation. In classes that have a research focus, instructors shall follow appropriate Institutional Review Board policies and procedures to ensure the protection of human subjects. NJ-STEP appointments teaching in NJ correctional facilities also require an additional background check through New Jersey Department of Corrections and a brief online training.
Course appointments are in one of three sites: 1) the Rutgers Newark campus, 2) the Rutgers off-campus site located at the County College of Morris, 3) NJ-STEP affiliated correctional facilities in northern and southern New Jersey. Courses will generally involve face-to-face instruction, although some may be offered virtually (e.g., hybrid or remote). Appointments in the first two sites report to the Dean of the School of Criminal Justice; appointments in the third site report to the Executive Director of the NJ-STEP program.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Masters or Juris Doctorate Required.
Doctorate Preferred.
Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level.
Applicants with comparable degrees from accredited institutions may also be considered. Prior teaching experience is also preferred.

Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
