Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides community programs and activities as well as youth programming and an annual Pride festival to strengthen and support the LGBTQ+ community across the Lehigh Valley.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for direct outreach and enrollment assistance for community members to sign up for healthcare through Pennsylvania’s health insurance exchange, Pennie. The position works collaboratively as part of a health programs team to promote a high quality of health for all LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians. Training and certification as a healthcare enrollment assister will be provided. This position will generally work from 9-5 or 10-6, with flexibility required to adjust work schedule to attend evening and weekend outreach events.

This position works collaboratively as part of a team and with all Center staff and programs and is responsible to ensure our mission, vision and values are aligned with their work. It will be important that the position holds an understanding of the population served and the health needs of the LGBTQ+ community.

Requirements, Qualifications and Characteristics

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and motivation to ensure access to health insurance for LGBTQ+ people
  • Skills and confidence in public speaking, relationship-building, and community outreach
  • Familiarity with (or interest in) addressing barriers to healthcare for LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians
  • Previous experience working at a community-based non-profit organization preferred
  • Previous experience with healthcare enrollment assistance or benefits assistance preferred
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Clear Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police, and FBI criminal background checks are required for this position.
  • Spanish Language spoken and written proficiency is preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience in engaging historically underrepresented and marginalized communities including LGBTQ+ community members and those living with HIV.
  • Position requires use of agency vehicles and/or personal vehicles or access to independent transportation.
  • Valid driver's license required & proof of motor vehicle insurance (for use of personal vehicle)

Duties & Responsibilities

Complete training that has been approved by and offered through Pennie™

Achieve a passing score on all Pennie-approved certification examinations

Complete continuing education and be certified and/or recertified on at least an annual basis

Meet any licensing, certification, or other standards prescribed

Responsible for assisting community members and their representatives as they navigate the enrollment process.

Provide enrollment assistance services to community members via telephone, virtual, remote and person-to-person at various sites and other locations.

Manage incoming and outgoing calls with community members, and making recommendations for healthcare plan choices

Maintain documentation on Consumer Consent for assistance

Enter outreach and enrollment data and activities including media outreach and education, and group outreach and education into a reporting database weekly.

Expected to support all health programs within the Center as well as attend events, programs and First Saturday programming.

A passion for serving and working with the LGBTQ+ community

Comfort & confidence in initiating conversations with community members, providers and other community stakeholders.

Know and understand all Center programs, services, and events in order to answer questions.

Maintain a positive attitude and perform all responsibilities in a manner reflective of the Center; mission, vision and values.

Attends departmental, all-staff, and 1:1 meetings as well as contract required meetings

Participate in trainings

Actively participates as a team member in resolution of problems as they are identified

Travel throughout the Lehigh Valley as well as Central PA for Enrollment & Outreach events.

Adjust work schedule to meet the needs of health programs and the Center.

Benefits/Compensation

This is a full-time position with an hourly rate range of $18.00-$19.50,hourly rate offered will be commensurate with applicants experience.Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center offers rich benefits, credit union access, paid personal time and vacation time and 15 paid Holidays.
