Job Duties:

Library Services Specialist (PT)
The successful candidate will have experience working with teams/groups, search strategies and determining customer needs, as well as experience creating marketing materials and/or displays. They will also have knowledge of library philosophy, practice, policies, and procedures as well as online catalog, reference resources, and library digital media resources. Additionally, they will have a demonstrated ability to:
Provide customer service in person, by phone and virtually
Participate in departmental strategic teams to develop system policies and procedures.
Conduct basic reference interviews to assess customer needs, research customer information requests using print and online resources, and provide readers’ advisory
Efficiently organize and manage time
Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals from diverse backgrounds
Create marketing materials and/or displays
Develop leadership and team building skills.
Conduct library tours and provide technology assistance on computers and devices
Check materials in and out; assess and collect fines and fees
Register new library customers; perform basic information searches using search engines, online databases and library catalog resources
Participate on department or branch teams
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: High school diploma or GED and a combination of higher education and/or experience equivalent to two (2) years in a customer service/library related field utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.

Preferences:

2 years’ customer service/information desk experience
Evidence of computer/electronic resources experience
Experience assisting customers with technology
Experience with various search engines, databases, and internet sites
Experience working on teams/groups
Experience marketing materials and/or creating displays.
Evidence of Bookstore clerk/Library experience
Evidence of organization and time management.
