Nature based Childcare Assistant Job Description
Berardi Family Farm Childcare is located in Georgetown, MA and serves up to 10 children on our acre+ property, along with two horses, parakeets, goats and chickens. Our little ones learn in Nature and benefit from learning about the care of animals, plants and the earth while being exposed to language and literacy concepts as well as STEAM concepts. Our space includes garden space, a mud kitchen, indoor and outdoor play and craft spaces, cozy nap spaces for babies and toddlers and lots of room to grow and learn. We are, primarily, an outdoor Nature program.
Scope and Function: The Childcare Assistant role is a very active role that requires a warm, loving, caring, active and lively person to spend time with the children in our care- there’s not much sitting down! This role provides active learning and appropriate educational guidance, as well as personal care (such as diaper changes and toileting assistance) and feeding support in a daycare setting. The ideal candidate is incredibly safety-conscious and extremely conscientious, relates well to children and their experience of the world, and is someone that families can trust to take care of their most precious members.
Responsibilities include:
Childcare:
● Creating a warm and loving environment with positive reinforcement, positive words and positive guidance
● Creating an educational environment, under the direction of the Owner/Director, that is targeted to the ages of the children in our care
● Working with children directly to create art, do projects, dig in the dirt, play and interact with our animals (if comfortable with the animals)
● Providing positive guidance and discipline to help children to behave safely in the environment
● Assisting with toileting needs (diaper changes for babies, toileting assistance for toddlers)
● Assisting with nap time, meal times and helping the children be successful at both
Administrative:
● Maintaining a safe environment and following all company and state/federal policies and procedures at all times
● Completing paperwork for families and for state-mandated reports as needed
● Monitoring animal needs (animal care is not required but this role will be expected to notify the owner if injuries or illnesses, unusual behavior or unsafe conditions for the animals are observed.)
● Completing continuing education hours each year as required by the EEC
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
● Licence required through Ma. Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-to-become-a-family-child-care-assistant
● Warm, loving personality with fondness for animals and children
● Ability to treat all with respect and kindness
● Ability to work an active job and keep moving throughout the day
● Ability to balance the needs of multiple individuals at once
● 1-2 years of experience preferred in day care, childcare or nanny setting and references required
● Ability to follow rules and procedures carefully and without dangerous exceptions
● Commitment to confidentiality and safety at all times
● Ability to complete a first-aid and CPR course (paid for by the organization) within the first 60 days of employment. NOT required but preferred.
● Ability to speak English clearly and read/understand written directions and instructions in English.
Physical Work Description
This work is rated as Medium-Heavy, which includes exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker is subject to different environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside, except in extreme weather and workers are expected to spend prolonged periods of time outdoors.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
