Licensed Practical Nurse
Hours:
37.5 hrs per week, generally scheduled weekdays 8:30AM-4:30PM (with 30 min lunch break) and requires one floating evening shift per week working in a residential program; flexibility is required to meet the needs of the programs. This position requires travel between the agency’s main office, group homes, day program center, in the community and to medical appointments with service recipients. This is a non-exempt full-time position. Attendance at agency and program meetings required when assigned.
WORK LOCATIONS:
Administrative office, group homes/supervised apartments, Gruenert Center, and community.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Licensed Practical Nurse is to work with the DPD Nurse Manager (a Registered Nurse) in the provision and oversight of medical care to the clients of DPD. The LPN will work within the scope of nursing practice and adhere to the Standards of Care for the Practical Nurse. The LPN will work with all members of the health care team to provide consistent safe nursing care by utilizing therapeutic communication techniques, the nursing process, and sound judgment based on knowledge and nursing skills. The LPN will accept responsibility for personal and professional continuing education and demonstrate accountability in nursing practices. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse the Licensed Practical Nurse will ensure effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the client and significant others. The nurse will cooperate with Catholic Charities or DPD Administration and/or Division and DHS staff in any inspection or investigation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with current license to practice as an LPN in the State of New Jersey.
- Minimum two years in successful nursing practice or working with adults with disabilities.
- Must maintain certification as an American Red Cross FA and CPR trainer.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team, clients, families, visitors and staff.
- Previous experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
- Must have a driver's license, which is valid in the State of New Jersey.
- Will be required to drive agency vehicles to complete assigned duties and may be required to drive service recipients in agency vehicles.
- Knowledge of and proficiency with computer programs is required.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse must have a physical exam, mantoux test or equivalent, and drug test prior to employment. Must meet fingerprint/background check requirement and drug test requirements.
