Literacy Coach
Job description
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership, training and literacy coaching for staff completing the Texas Reading Academies Comprehensive Model Coursework and Reading by Design Dyslexia intervention.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Reading Specialist and/or Master Reading Teacher certificate (preferred)
Documented dyslexia training aligned to 19 TAC §74.28(c) (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the 5 pillars of Literacy and the Science of Teaching Reading
Knowledge of effective practices in early literacy instruction and dyslexia intervention
Knowledge of federal and state requirements in dyslexia intervention and identification
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Ability to interpret data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Experience:
Five years teaching experience in subject area assigned
Instructional coaching experience (preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
- Plan, improve, and oversee Texas Reading Academy Cohort comprehensive model implementation and teacher coaching.
- Assist Director with the review, development, and revision of assigned content area and related curriculum documents and materials.
- Serve as district Reading Academy Liaison and Cohort Leader with Region 4
- Monitoring the registration, participation, and implementation of Texas Reading Academy for year 4
- Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs in assigned subject area.
- Plan, improve, and oversee Texas Reading Academy Cohort comprehensive model implementation and teacher coaching.
- Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for assigned content area.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned content area.
Staff Development
- Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in designated content area.
- Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.
- Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom.
