Organization: Boys & Girls Club of Portage County (non-profit, youth service)Hours: 3-4:30 PM (5 hours per week)

Locations: Jefferson Elementary School, Stevens Point or Rosholt Elementary School, Rosholt (Summer)

Compensation: $25-$30/hr (must have teachers certification)

Reports to: Director of Operations

Position Summary: The Literacy Enrichment Teacher will provide 1-2 hours of literacy support daily to members. They will work as the liaison between school day teachers and after school programming to ensure members’ academic needs are being met and homework assignments are completed. They will also provide support to the Site Director by developing literacy enrichment activities.

Qualifications:

• Must possess an ELA Teaching Certificate
• Must have experience working with youth
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Demonstrated experience developing curriculum for youth
• Ability to organize and supervise members
• Able to pass a reference and background check
• Ability to work independently as well as in groups
• Able to meet deadlines
• Must either be CPR / First Aid Certified or have the ability to become certified

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Standing or walking for up to 8 hours a day
• Pushing or lifting of up to 50lbs
• Ability to handle high noise levels for extended periods of time

Responsibilities:

• Plan and lead daily and weekly enrichment activities
• Effectively communicate between teachers to ensure Club members academic needs are being met
• Promote and stimulate reading program participation
• Work with Club members to ensure that there is a productive work environment
• Ensure that all programs and activities occur daily as scheduled
• Ensure an appropriate number of youth participate in each program
• Able to facilitate “On the Spot Fun” activities when needed
• Ensure all programs are safe & meaningful
• Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members
• Ensure participation numbers are tracked for each activity
• Assist in collecting outcome data when requested
• Assist in maintaining a clean, neat and properly equipped program area
• Assist in keeping program supplies organized and maintained to limit wasted resources
• Assist in making sure that the overall Club environment is safe and inviting for all Club Members
• Encourage kids to assist in cleaning the Club
• May need to sit in on meetings with parents
