Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Keeps hotel or motel in clean and orderly condition and tends furnace, air conditioner, and boiler to provide heat, cool air, and hot water for guests by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains hotel and performs routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.
  • Walks property daily, picks up trash and ensures exterior is clean and inviting to guests.
  • Replaces air conditioner filters.
  • Turns mattresses quarterly (if applicable)
  • Services and maintains washers and dryers
  • Keeps maintenance shop clean and organized
  • Ensures sufficient supplies for repairs and maintenance projects are on hand
  • Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.
  • Mows lawn, trims shrubbery, and cultivates flowers (if applicable).
  • Awareness of safety hazards that can be created while working and correct action taken to ensure safety.
  • As part of Maintenance cleanup, duties could include: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming hallways, stairs, public space, offices and guest rooms.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and climb or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
