This position is located at DEL MAR BEACH RESORT. Candidates selected for this position will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER NL-09.

Major Duties


Leads coworkers in performing assigned duties. Assists with training and checking the work of lessor skilled workers. Performs non-supervisory work involved in the maintenance and care of beach front property as directed, and emergency repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities. The work in this occupation varies in the combination of trade practices required by differing work situations. The duties may include: Plumbing repairs, installations and maintenance of minor plumbing systems. Carpentry assignments typically consisting of construction or repair of wooden structures such as scaffolds, staging parts, panels, bins, pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, sheeting, and roof decking. Painting, standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying, by the use of coating materials that are prepared according to specific directions, and by the application of coating techniques that insure surfaces are fully coated, protected, and free from drips and runs. Grounds maintenance and preparation is performed according to instructions to include a combination of duties such as painting, transplanting, cutting and trimming, irrigation and fertilization, watering and seeding of trees, shrubs, and grass. Field preparation tasks include disking, harrowing, leveling, fertilization and grass seed. Dragging and require use of the tractor to drag beach front property (almost daily for eight months of the year). Checks irrigation system for coverage and adjust the sprinkler heads as needed. Miscellaneous Maintenance duties include welding, fencing, resurfacing hardwood floors, electrical and masonry work. Performs a variety of maintenance duties which may include replacing defective light switches and burned-out bulbs, installing and replacing electrical receptacles, repairing door locks, mixing and pouring cement, soldering materials together, and repairing broken tools and equipment. Daily cleaning and policing of common area may include trash collection, cleaning and disinfecting, spraying, and sweeping. Will be required to perform rodent and weed control duties.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Skills and Knowledge: Two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge in the trades of plumbing, carpentry, and painting sufficient to perform the duties of the position. Works under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledge. Requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 lbs. Occasionally may handle materials and equipment weighing 40 lbs and over. Work is performed both inside and outside, incumbent is exposed to dirt, paint vapors and fumes, scrapes, burns and cuts. A valid California driver's license is required and must be able to obtain a Construction Equipment Operator License.

Responsibility: Works under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledge.

Physical Effort: Requires prolonged standing; stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 lbs. Occasionally may handle materials and equipment weighing 40 lbs. and over.

Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside, and incumbent is exposed to dirt, paint vapors and fumes, scrapes, burns and cuts.
