Maintenance Technician - Carpentry/HVAC/Plumbing
Full Time Manual Labor
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join the facilities team and assist the Director of Facilities & Operations with the general maintenance and upkeep of school buildings, grounds, and facilities. This position works with faculty, staff, and students to proactively assess and rectify issues relating to the overall physical plant and functioning of the school. The ideal candidate possesses strong carpentry skills and experience.
Regular hours are 40 hours per week, including all school holidays and occasional nights and weekends as needed for special events, performances, programs, etc. This position has on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis (approximately one-week per month). This position is classified as “essential,” meaning employees are required to report to their designated work location to ensure the operation of essential functions or departments during an emergency or when the school has otherwise suspended operations. All faculty/staff are active, engaged members of the school community who are committed to collaborating and growing in their field.

Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and general maintenance, repairs, and operations of all building systems and services throughout campus, including but not limited to: carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, gasses, steam, finishes, electrical, snow removal, and refuse removal;
- Operate school vehicles, trucks, golf carts, and other equipment to transport materials, supplies, and to perform snow removal or other duties as needed;
- Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner;
- Identify and respond to emergencies and safety hazards, provide first-line response, emergency management, and escalation as required; report all emergencies to supervisor;
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles;
- Complete seasonal tasks and activities including snow removal, deicing, and assisting grounds crew with seasonal cleanups;
- Complete set-up and break-down for events, performances, programs, and campus activities including but not limited to: Graduation, Family Weekend, Orientation, Patriot’s Day, Candlelight, Boars Head, Awards Ceremony, art performances, etc.; assist with tasks during events as needed;
- Maintain the facilities shop and ensure it is in clean, working order;
- Provide rotating on-call duties approximately one week per month;
- Assist with housekeeping, security, and mailroom coverage as needed;
- Provide occasional transportation services for school personnel and students as needed;
- Perform additional duties as needed and assigned.
Collaboration, Professional Development, and Training
- Complete required paperwork, forms, surveys, employment documents, background checks, fingerprinting, online training programs, request and report absences, accidents, and injuries, and follow other school policy and legal requirements by established deadlines;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive working and educational environment for students and employees to support the school’s mission, vision, and core values;
- Participate in communal programming, all-school events, art events, and support student performances, art openings, exhibitions, and other campus-wide activities if appropriate and instructed by supervisor; model and encourage appropriate behavior and monitor students during events and programming;
- Attend and participate in required faculty and staff meetings and department meetings; participate and engage fully in individual reviews and evaluations; be open to feedback and work with supervisor to set goals and expectations for the future;
- Attend and participate in appropriate Professional Development (PD) days, training programs, orientation programs, benefit meetings, mandatory seminars, team-building exercises, and safety training/drills as directed by your supervisor; and
- Display willingness and ability to grow, learn, explore new approaches, and practice self-reflection.
Skills & Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in facilities, maintenance, or related field; carpentry experience preferred;
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate power and hand tools, equipment, vertical lift, ladders, dollies, and other basic maintenance, loading, and unloading equipment;
- Ability to assess a situation and diagnose issues and escalate as needed;
- Excellent decision-making skills; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
- Knowledge of safety codes, regulations, and procedures;
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and follow safety laws, regulations, and school policies;
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work with a wide range of people –students, parents, faculty, staff, vendors, and community members;
- Effective written and oral communication skills; proficient computer skills;
- Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community;
- Be committed to learning about and practicing anti-racist work;
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a changing, fast-paced environment;
- Hold or obtain special licenses and certifications as needed; and
- Current driver’s license is required.

Salary: $49,900.00 - $54,080.00 per year
