This position reports to the Director of Facilities Operations and is accountable for the University’s Custodial Operations Department which operates on a 24/7 schedule to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions throughout all campus buildings and suites, including accurately and timely set-up and break-down for special events. This position has management responsibility for all custodial activities including material procurement on a three shift basis, with Department shift Leads and a 1st and 2nd shift Supervisors as direct reports.

- Principal Accountabilities: Ensure that campus facilities are clean and attractive in a 24/7 customer service environment, closely monitoring task performance to ensure compliance with quality standards and identify areas for improvement or efficiency gains. Will be required to take calls and assign or respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
- Effectively recruit, hire, train, coach, and supervise employees in a manner that results in a highly motivated staff, with an emphasis on providing staff with orientation on department policy, procedures, and work standards. Ensure that hiring and supervisory practices are in compliance with the spirit and intent of EEO/AA and contractual obligations. Make every attempt to resolve grievances at the first step and maintain positive employee relations.
- Participate in long-term planning initiatives with Senior Facilities Management Leaders, and assist with budget development, staffing, and operational strategies which meet both short and long terms plans.
- Manage the procurement of custodial operation materials including replacement of residential furniture through the most cost-effective manner. Maintain and control inventory utilizing just in time inventory monitoring system. Maintain accurate and up to date MSDS records for all products utilized. Use updated technology to enhance product usage advantages and labor efficiency.
- Ensure accurate and timely room event management, including set-ups and breakdown. Attend meetings with Conference Department, Resident Life, Athletics’, Admissions, Student Organizations, reviewing requirements and event implementation procedures. Manage TMA work order system distributing and monitoring work request daily.
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities and professional organizations to continually enhance knowledge of operational enhancements in the field of custodial maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is best served by an individual with an undergraduate degree in business management or other related field, five years progressive experience as a supervisor or manager of custodial operations at an institution of higher education or a facility of similar size and scope. Experience must demonstrate technical expertise in the physics and methods of cleaning, and strong customer service and follow-up skills. He/she must have excellent interpersonal and human resource skills, as well as experience managing unionized employees and working within the parameters of a collective bargaining agreement. Knowledge of and experience with OSHA, MSDS, and RIDEM recycling programs is essential. Experience supporting event setup and operations highly desirable. Proficiency with computer operations using Microsoft Office environment is required. Certain requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate persons with disabilities.

Regular attendance at assigned job site and the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and constituents are essential functions of this position.
