About Our Job
This is advanced level management work, responsible for supervising criminal division program managers and administrative staff as directed by the Trial Court Administrator (TCA) and Chief Deputy Court Administrator.
Job Description:
This position is responsible for implementing, clarifying and supporting policy and procedures of assigned programs; planning, implementing and managing special projects and grants; county budget and contract management; grant research and grant reporting; performing research; analyzing data; and serving as liaison and information resource to criminal justice and social service agencies.
Supervise managerial and administrative staff and oversee court operations for all criminal division programs within the circuit, including pretrial services and problem-solving courts:
  • Responsible for selection of staff, training, assignment and evaluation of work, counseling and discipline of program directors, managers, supervisors and frontline staff;
  • Works with supervisor and TCA to develop long-term goals of the court’s criminal division programs and develops staffing models as necessary to address the needs of the court;
  • Oversees, reviews and approves County expenditures for assigned court programs and areas of responsibility;
  • Provides fiscal data and statistics for preparation of the court’s annual budget under Sarasota County Government and develops content for presentations to Board of County Commissioners;
  • Gathers information and data as necessary to support periodic and special reports for programs of responsibility.
Monitor performance of assigned court programs to ensure compliance with court policy and procedures:
  • Works directly with staff of the Office of the State Courts Administrator, as well as local, state and federal agencies, to establish performance measures and ensure compliance for program of responsibility;
  • Assists program directors and managers in identifying, analyzing and clarifying policy issues and trends within their assigned areas of responsibility.
Provide leadership in planning, implementing and managing projects and issues of responsibility. This includes court facilities, security and maintenance:
  • Organizes and attends regular meetings to address operations, upgrades and additional needs of areas of responsibility, including facility expansion;
  • Maintains working relationships with the judges, court personnel, clerks of court, law enforcement, state and county officials, attorneys, local organizations, social service agencies and the public.
Assist in the development of court programs (i.e. researching/preparing grant documents, helping to implement new programs, etc.):
  • Monitor grant opportunities;
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements for TCA approval;
  • Oversee compliance with grant reporting and other grant related requirements.
Attend community and government meetings and events on behalf of the courts to gain and share information (i.e. Community Alliance, Family Safety Alliance, Behavioral Health Stakeholders, Emergency Operations, etc.). Keep TCA, supervisor and judges apprised of information.
Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.
About You
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university in public, business or judicial administration/management, law, or closely related field and four (4) years of related experience. An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of job-related experience. Year-for-year experience may substitute for the college degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree is preferred
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
