Overview:
Summary: Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of workers engaged in the melting manufacturing process by charging, operating and tapping furnaces, pouring molten metal and chipping and cleaning the cupola and ladle.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises up to 7 employees in accordance with the Company’s policies, practices and procedures. Responsibilities include assigning and directing work; training and mentoring employees; counsels employees, provides input on employee performance, disciplinary actions and other personnel issues; addresses complaints and resolves problems. Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include those listed below. Other duties may be assigned. This position is a full time (minimum 40 hours per week) on-site position.
Ensures the safe start-up of the cupola.- Monitors the cupola and recording process parameters during cupola operation.
- Operates emissions system within required parameters.
- Assigns duties during bottom drops.
- Determines the correct amount of Silicon or Magnesium to add at the forehearth.
- Determines the lime and spar feed rates.
- Observes machines and equipment for malfunction and oversees workers making adjustments or repairs.
- Examines materials and products at various stages of processing for conformance to specifications.
- Interprets specifications and job orders to workers and assigns duties.
- Schedules, coordinates and oversees the daily activities of workers.
- Assigns work to individuals, explains new work techniques and provides technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.
- Observes work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems.
- Ensures proper quality standards are maintained on products being produced.
- Reports possible or actual work delays to supervisor.
- Supports and explains management programs to subordinates.
- Advises and counsels workers on how to improve their performance and provides input on performance appraisals, training needs and disciplinary actions.
- Determines work procedures, recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
- Fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
- Fosters positive work relationships.
- Observes and enforces all Company, housekeeping, safety and plant policies and procedures.
- Motivates and encourages teamwork with direct reports to ensure productive objectives are met.
- Addresses errors, problems and complaints within scope of authority.
- Trains, develops and mentors employees.
- Communicates effectively within department.
- Keeps supervisor informed of problems as they arise.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience: Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred; High School diploma or general education plus 2 years’ manufacturing experience required; OR equivalent combination of education in Manufacturing, Engineering or Industrial Technology and/or industrial manufacturing experience. One year in a leadership capacity desired.
