Job Summary
Starting hourly pay $19.65 - $28.43 depending on qualifications.
Looking for a change? The City of Olathe Vehicle Maintenance team is recruiting for an evening shift Mechanic. We rank number 23 in North American Fleets and use the FASTER fleet management system.
If your background includes mechanical troubleshooting skills and a thorough knowledge of repairs of heavy equipment, we want to talk to you.
Mechanic I: Minimum of one to two years of training and/or experience in Automotive and Equipment maintenance and repair. A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification required.
Mechanic II: Minimum of three years experience in automotive and equipment repair. Required certifications are: ASE Brakes, ASE Suspension, ASE choice, EVT F1 or F2. Hydraulic experience preferred.
Mechanic III: Minimum of six years experience in automotive and equipment repair. Required certifications for the heavy side are: EVT F3 & EVT F4. Light side would require EVT L1 and ASE electrical. Hydraulic experience preferred.
Mechanic IV: Minimum of ten years experience in automotive and equipment repair. Required certifications are: ASE Master Technician, EVT F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 & F6.
License or Certificate:
(All Mechanic levels)
- A valid driver's license with a favorable driving record all positions
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement and pass a DOT physical within six months of hire. Did we mention we will help you obtain your CDL?
- Prefer certification in A/C refrigerant and recycling or obtain within 6 months of employment.

- Analyze vehicle and equipment failures; determine causes and recommend and/or complete repair solutions.
- Perform preventative maintenance on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Perform vehicle and equipment repairs including but not limited to; Engine, Transmission, brake, suspension, hydraulic and electrical repairs using proper safety devices and procedures.
- Perform equipment installation, fabrication, welding and acetylene cutting for all types of vehicles and equipment.
- Respond to emergency repairs and service calls on vehicles and equipment including after hours calls.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records and reports on repairs performed and on equipment usage and condition.
- Other duties as assigned
Experience & Qualification Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of training and or experience in Automotive and Equipment Maintenance and repair.
Education: High School Diploma supplemented with course work in automotive technology.
License & Certification(s): Possession of valid Class B CDL (with air brakes) required, or acquisition of said license within 6 months of employment required. A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling certification required.
