Overview:
Merrick is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer (0 - 4 years of experience) to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This is a full time, direct hire position and will be located in our Richmond, VA, Newport News, VA or Ellicott City, MD offices.

Scope/Key Responsibilities:
  • Working with designers to develop P&IDs (Process and Instrument Diagrams), equipment and piping isometrics, plans and sections, and general arrangement drawings in CAD. CAD software includes AutoCAD, Plant 3D, CADWorx, and Revit.
  • Create equipment datasheets, specifications, bid packages, and bid tabs
  • Working with and developing piping and valve specifications.
  • Performing design calculations and sizing of mechanical commercial components, stress analysis of components, and piping systems. Calculations may involve use of software such as AFT, Trane Trace, and CAESAR II.
  • Following quality assurance / quality control procedures to check designs.
  • Conducting site walkdowns and supplier equipment inspections, as necessary.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.
  • 0 - 4 years industry experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous engineering internship a plus.
  • Local candidates strongly preferred.
  • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.
Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted
  • May be required to lift equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • The job requires the ability to visit industrial sites and construction sites for the intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights, in compact and confined spaces, and may require climbing ladders or using a respirator to perform the inspections.
  • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.
