Position Summary

The Media and Content position is staffed through the Museum’s staffing partner, Kelly Services, with the location of assignment being The Corning Museum of Glass. The position is onsite, full-time, and will report to the Manager, Public Relations and Special Media Projects. The duration for this assignment is May 2023 through May 2024 with the potential for extension.

The Media and Content Associate is responsible for writing and content-generation support to The Corning Museum of Glass (Museum) as a member of the Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team. Serves as support liaison to local media contacts, responds to media inquiries, and tracks and reports media placements. Writes and edits for a range of audiences and channels including traditional print and media messaging, and content for web, digital, and social media channels. Supports other MarCom work including integrated project tracking and reporting.

Responsibilities

Media Relations and Coordination

  • Works with Manager, Public Relations and Special Media Projects to develop and pitch stories and outreach strategies for local and regional media. Answers media inquiries, develops talking points, and coordinates media visits and appearances.
  • Coordinates the Museum’s media database, ensuring all aspects of the platform are fully utilized. Ensures press contact lists are up-to-date and appropriately targeted and builds additional media lists for opportunities that arise.
  • Monitors and reports on media coverage using the Museum’s media monitoring services. Provides internal clip reports and shares relevant stories with Museum staff via the intranet and followers via social media.
  • Assists in development of press materials and coordinate media logistics.
  • Helps maintain the online press room and distribute press releases, ensuring strong SEO and integration of press materials with other web communications. Power user for the Press Center section on cmog.org.
  • Supports special media projects as needed.

Content Development: Writing, Editing, and Proofreading

  • Serves as content contributor: writes, edits, and proofreads for press releases, media partners, email communications, social media posts, blog articles, and member magazine as needed.
  • Collaborates with other Museum departments and subject matter experts to gather content details and coordinate timelines, draft review and finalization.
  • Checks for consistency in messaging, style, voice, and brand across Museum communications.
  • Supports additional MarCom initiatives and internal communications as needed.

Digital Content, Email Marketing, and Social Media

  • Supports Marketing Specialist in drafting Museum communications for multiple stakeholders.
  • Supports Social Media and Photography Specialist in drafting social posts for Museum social media channels, and inputs approved content into the Museum’s publishing platform/s (Sprout Social).
  • Provides backup for livestream moderation and photography, as needed.
  • Builds and helps to track integrated, cross-departmental marketing plans in Monday.com, communicating timelines with stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Interest in the arts, cultural programming, and museums.
  • One (1) year working in communications for a museum, cultural organization, or non-profit organization preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using media monitoring services and project management tracking platforms helpful. Cision, Meltwater, Monday.com a plus.
  • Experience developing content for social media channels a plus. Demonstrated proficiency using Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Sprout Social, Mail Chimp and other social media analytics.
  • General knowledge of photography and use of digital camera helpful. Understanding of multimedia equipment a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated writing and editing experience with the ability to maintain appropriate voice for different audiences and to write about art in an intelligent but accessible way.
  • Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to take direction, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and handle multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with people at all levels, including the media.
  • Some weekends, evenings, and holidays required; availability to work onsite or online; flexibility in hours necessary.

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
