POSITION TITLE: MEDICAL ASSISTANT (TRAVELING)

STATUS: NON EXEMPT

LOCATION: Sonora, CA ( REQUIREMENT TO TRAVEL TO ALL CLINICS )

STARTING SALARY: $22.56-$27.10/HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to assist and support the Medical Department's professional staff, provide care of patients during all stages of their visits and entails both front office and back office procedures.

The position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian health organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. MEDICAL PROVIDER SUPPORT:

1. Cleans exam room and lab between patient visits and after hours according to protocol.

2. Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares them for the providers by taking necessary vital signs on all patients.

3. Performs various lab tests, screening and phlebotomy testing procedures consistent with training and clinic policies.

4. Assists with maintenance and inventory of medical equipment and supplies, and restocks exam rooms.

5. Facilitates and logs labs, X-rays, consults, referrals and other reports as needed.

6. Maintains tracking and log records per protocol: Immunizations, emergency kit and injectables.

7. Maintains infection control standards, including autoclaving instrument and logging of autoclave testing.

8. Assists with assessments required for CHDP, audits and other regulatory guidelines.

9. Assists with training of newly employed staff as directed.

10. Comply with all MACT policies and procedures at all times.

11. Other duties as assigned.

B. QUALITY ASSURANCE:

1. Participates in Departmental Quality Assurance activities.

2. Inventory and monthly check of emergency carts and supplies and do appropriate documentation.

3. Create recall lists, abnormal lab logs and high-risk lists.

4. Participate in telephone triage according to protocols under the telephone triage coordinator (R.N.).

5. Must adhere to the MACT Health Board, Inc. Corporate Code of Conduct

6. Must complete EHR training.

C. SCRIBING:

1. Performing all clerical and information technology functions for an assigned provider.

2. Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.

3. Primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records for assigned provider.

4. Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports.

5. Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms.

6. Transcribing all ancillary test results and their interpretations, including any lab tests, imaging tests, ECGs and ABGs

7. Recording a provider’s consultations with other health care professionals, patients, and family members

8. Reviewing prior medical records to obtain past medical history information and prior labs, ECGs and radiographic studies for comparison

9. Understanding billing codes to help increase a provider’s charting efficiency

10. Documenting procedures and treatments performed by providers

11. Checking on the progress of x-rays and other patient evaluation data

12. Record provider-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient discharge and/or follow-up

13. Facilitates and logs labs, X-rays, consults, referrals and other reports as needed.

D. MEDICAL RECEPTION:

1. Register patients; complete medical charts, and insurance forms.

2. Telephone skills, directing and screening calls, making appointments.

3. Process super bills, lab results, various medical documents and insurance forms.

4. Direct forms to the appropriate departments.

5. Open and review mail, direct to appropriate departments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Current CPR certificate.

3. Current Medical Assistant licensure.

4. Experienced in medical field preferred.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must pass Occupational Health Screening.

2. Must possess a valid form of identification as listed on the U.S. Department of Justice I-9 form, verified using the E Verify system.

3. Clean DMV driving record and MACT auto insurance driving eligibility (determined by auto insurance carrier). This position will require travel to various clinic locations.

DESIRED ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of universal precautions.

2. Knowledge of various working policies and procedures of the Medical Clinic at M.A.C.T. Health Board, Inc.

3. Skill in taking and recording patient's vitals, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature and urinalysis, etc.

4. Knowledge of various clerical tasks required, e.g., assisting patients in completing forms.

5. Knowledge of various tools and equipment used by the physicians and the Nurse Practitioners.

6. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and sterile processes.

7. Knowledge of confidentiality rules regarding medical information as well as the Privacy Act. HIPPA educated.

8. Knowledge of Diabetes Guidelines and procedures.
