Position Purpose

The Coordinator assigned to the Learning Services Unit is responsible for assisting persons with serious and persistent mental illness (Open Door Clubhouse Members) in achieving their highest level of independent functioning. This responsibility extends to the maintaining of a clubhouse milieu according to ICCD standards; where members can come together to make friends, gain support, and learn valuable skills. Psychosocial Rehabilitation is the objective of all clubhouse activities, with work being the principal modality for accomplishing this objective. In keeping with the clubhouse model, the position's basic responsibilities are twofold: 1.) To oversee and facilitate the Work Ordered Day activities in the Learning Services Unit, and 2.) To act as Placement Manager for the Transitional and Employment Programs.

Opportunities & Challenges

The Learning Services Unit Coordinator is responsible for all Work Ordered Day activities pertaining to the educational functions of the clubhouse. The tasks that this would entail are to be accomplished by the members, working side by side with clubhouse staff. In so doing, members have opportunity to develop skills, grow in self-confidence, and contribute to their clubhouse community. In turn, this may lead to employment opportunities in the community at large for the member.

Principle Accountabilities

• Facilitate Unit Meetings twice daily, in which clubhouse members discuss the tasks to be performed in the Unit, and volunteer to perform those tasks according to their choice.
• Work collaboratively with members and staff to plan, organize, and carry out the Work Ordered Day (WOD). Encourage member involvement in carrying out the WOD. Provide active support and assistance to members as needed.
• Assess and evaluate individual member's interests and skills according to the member's participation in the WOD. Assist members in making employment and/ or educational choices accordingly.
• Participate in the Clubhouse Social/ Recreational program as scheduled.
• Maintain health and safety standards as required by the Clubhouse and regulating agencies. Ensure safety of members, and security of Clubhouse property and equipment.
• Maintain member attendance as required by the Clubhouse and regulating agencies.
• Facilitate member enrollments and orientation into the program.
• Maintain and seek community-based resources for the enhancement of the unit, including presentation and referral opportunities for the Clubhouse.
• Orientation of new members to the learning services offered by the Clubhouse.
• Perform Placement Management Functions for assigned Transitional/Supported Employment Placements. This includes but is not limited to the following: identify & ready members for work, job coaching and providing support to the working member, acting as liaison between the employer and the member, acting as liaison between the employer and the clubhouse, provide coverage for member absences from work, and complete all paperwork contractually required by OVR.
• Identify potential candidates for Transitional and Supported Employment/OVR tract. Coordinate with fellow staff to ensure job readiness, counsel members regarding ambivalence & possible barriers to successful completion.
• Function as first-line liaison with OVR counterpart.
• Conduct group activities focused on such topics as: resume writing, job searching, hygiene and appropriate dress for job interviewing, practice job applications and interviewing techniques, socialization and assertiveness skills, problem solving skills, as well as special topics as needed.
• Prep and prepare breakfast and lunch as needed for the Clubhouse and meals on special occasions.
• Provide all required documentation for Unit members including progress reports, OVR billing, etc.
• Maintain health and safety standards as required by the Clubhouse and regulating agencies.
• Special assignments as designated by the Director.
• Attend trainings and Clubhouse functions as directed by supervisor

Authority

The Clubhouse Learning Services Unit Coordinator is responsible to actively oversee the Work Ordered Day activities of the Unit and give direction and support to the members in the performance of their tasks. At times, this position may need to fulfill roles in other Clubhouse Units

Beyond the Open Door Clubhouse, contacts are to be maintained with other member clubhouses in the Pennsylvania Clubhouse Coalition, as well as the Clubhouse International membership at large.

• A Bachelor's Degree

Or

• An associate degree with at least 2 years of experience in the mental health field.

And

• A valid driver's license.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Social Media Knowledge is a Preference
• Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a Bonus
