Job Summary

The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute is made up of a diverse group of innovative and talented professionals who work in a fast-paced environment that provides ongoing support to research projects, patient care, lab research and administrative operations. The Institute is seeking a talented and passionate Microscopy Operation Engineer to join its translational research team. Reporting to the Imaging and Assay Development Manager, this individual will support an interdisciplinary team of cancer researchers with microscopy training and with developing imaging processes. They will also perform routine instrument maintenance to ensure continuous operation and will collaborate with facility staff to identify and repair instruments, when needed. The ideal candidate should be team oriented and contribute to improving the multi-user facility’s operation.

The Microscopy Operation Engineer is responsible for performing the following job duties:

Job Accountabilities

• Maintain equipment manuals, repair notes, standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation, and establish quality control monitoring
• Perform routine inspection and operation of the instrumentation
• Report issues, coordinate maintenance needs to Lab Operations Director and work with vendors for field service of instrumentation
• Support users in developing imaging processes
• Create and enforce instrument operation protocols and provide lab safety and equipment training to users
• Identify and address potential areas for improvement to maintain high levels of equipment availability and process stability

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The successful applicant will have prior experience in optical microscopy and be proficient in a subset of the following techniques:

• Using laser scanning, spinning disk confocal, 2-photon and fluorescence life-time imaging microscopes
• Performing fluorescent imaging of biological samples
• Performing image data analysis with commercial (Imaris, Harmony, cellSens) and open source (Fiji-ImageJ, Cellprofiler, etc.) software
• Programming with Python, Matlab and R
• Preparing SOP documentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s of Science

Minimum Experience: Specialized/technical training combined with 2 years laboratory experience

Minimum Field of Expertise: Microscope imaging and data analysis directly related to education and/or experience in microscopy

Preferred Education: Master of Science

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years in lab microscopy experience in imagining and data analysis

Salary: $80,000-$110,000
