A full-time, 12-month contract covering maternity leave has arisen for the role of Midwife within our Midwife Support Service. The successful candidate will provide efficient and effective maternity support and education to members of the Vhi Midwife Support Service.


Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Work to the highest clinical standards ensuring client safety by adhering to evidence based clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the assigned number of consultations are completed within the allotted time. This includes all associated preparation and post-consultation work. Ensure implementation of support plans for each participant at the appropriate time and feedback any changes in the health of the patients to the Midwife Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Midwife Manager in preparing and implementing support plans. Participate in the development of support plans.
  • Prioritise the workload of the day, and organize resources as required. Work as part of a team, and on one’s own initiative.
  • Practice midwifery according to the professional code of Nursing and Midwifery Board and the policies and procedures of Vhi MSS.
  • Maintain professional registration with NMBI and provide evidence of same annually and on time.
  • Participate as a team member of the multi-disciplinary team in all aspects in the delivery of patient care.
  • Attend training courses both in-house and at other locations to meet and enhance the service being provided.
  • Fulfil mandatory training requirements as required and maintain professional knowledge and competence.
  • Provide education and support to the member at each stage of the pregnancy journey in accordance with MSS policies.
  • Collaborate with the participants and the multi-disciplinary teams to facilitate appropriate continuity of care.
  • Support the participants to make appropriate referrals to allied health professionals both within and external to the MSS when required. Record all consultation notes and member progress on IT systems.
  • Report any concerns regarding care on the health status of the mother (and baby when applicable) to the Midwife Manager.
  • Adhere to the Vhi MSS Care Plan when providing consultations.

The successful candidate must have:
  • Registered Midwife with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
  • A minimum of 3 years post registration experience in a maternity services environment.
  • A clear desire and proven capability to work on your own initiative in a clinically challenging and protocol led environment.
  • A proven interest in holistic, collaborative, dynamic midwifery practices, and a high level of attention to detail.
  • A proven interest in breastfeeding and current knowledge of breast feeding practices
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of caring for clients
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships
  • I.T. Skills & Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Demonstrate Alignment with Vhi Values.
