The Motor Pool Vehicle Technician I performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment at NTSH Wichita Falls Texas. At times will assist with the VSH vehicles as needed. Work involves regular inspections, Vehicle fire extinguisher inspections and repair of vehicles, equipment & preventive maintenance. Performs oil changes, scheduling the washing/cleaning of the administrative support state vehicles. Diagnose and order parts and materials. Checks and fuels the administrative support state vehicles on a daily schedule. Assist with taking and picking up vehicles to vendors as needed. The Motor Pool Vehicle Technician I reports to the Motor Pool Vehicle Technician III and the Maintenance Supervisor I.



Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Inspects all Motor Pool vehicles & equipment regularly & makes repairs as needed such as repairing or replacing worn or broken parts, repairing electrical & cooling systems, tune ups & required adjustments. Perform annually and quarterly inspections on equipment such as genie lift, ford tractor and backhoe.

Knowledge of tire repair replacement, able to inspect tires for wear age and able to order and price tires from vendors asking for quote pricing.

Performs preventative maintenance on all Motor Pool vehicles & equipment as scheduled. Operate and perform preventative maintenance on shop automotive lifts.

Knowledge in fueling gasoline, propane vehicles & equipment.

Assists the Motor Pool Supervisor III in ordering parts & materials for the motor pool section. Takes inventory of all tools & equipment daily. Checks shop area daily for safety hazards and clean shop as scheduled.

Properly enter and maintain employee level data in CAPPS, properly submit request for time off and complete all required employee training.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.




Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Experience and knowledge of general vehicle repair and maintenance.

Knowledge of vehicle planned maintenance systems.

Knowledge of stationary diesel engine repair and maintenance.

Knowledge of vehicle installed hydraulic systems.

Required having an acceptable driving record as defined by standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Required to possess at least a Class C Driver’s license.

Basic Computer Skills.

Ability to work in various environmental conditions.

Good reading and writing skills.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must possess valid Texas driver’s license (Class C) or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy



Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED)

1 year experience in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and stationary engines

Basic working knowledge of and ability to understand blueprints and schematics and technical manuals.

Knowledge of Basic computer operation


Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with individuals.
