Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the MRI TECH II or MRI TECH Sr. level. Less than 3 years of recent experience in a similar role and setting or a new graduate of an approved radiologic technology program (MRI Tech) OR more than 3 years of experience (Sr. MRI Tech).

DESCRIPTION

Center for Translational Imaging and Precision Medicine (CTIPM) is to develop next-generation technologies in medical imaging and analysis, test their efficacy for clinical practice, and make them available to physicians and their patients. Working under direct supervision, incumbent performs routine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures for diagnostic and research purposes in accordance with established guidelines and MRI protocols. Demonstrates and applies knowledge of principles of MRI safety. Prepares and positions patient for procedure by using established MRI protocols to achieve the highest quality image. Follows protocols specified by the Radiologist. Administers contrast media per protocol. Educates patient, collects patient history, communicates patient information to the Radiologist, and prepares patient for procedure. Enters complex data into the computer system. Reviews, verifies, and evaluates images to ensure technical quality and image quality. Troubleshoots and resolves MRI-related PACS issues.

Duties include using MRI equipment to scan research specimens; preparing specimens before and after MRI scanning; maintaining files of specimens and records of all procedures; transferring specimen scan data; selecting appropriate equipment; determining the most suitable anatomical positions.

Incumbent will serve as a research associate for magnetic resonance imaging research projects. Takes responsibility for maintaining research standardization of MR acquisition procedures for all study protocols. Operates varied types of equipment, recognizing normal and pathological conditions.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience to perform Magnetic Resonance scanning techniques to render diagnostic images. Knowledge of Magnetic Resonance physical principles, concepts and other investigational imaging modalities.

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain maximum diagnostic information, recognizing equipment and scanning limitations.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and related positioning for accurate imaging. Demonstrated ability to recognize structures that are visualized and anatomic relationships, normal and pathological. Experience to assess technical and diagnostic acceptability of images prior to record.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Control related to image quality.

  • Demonstrated skill to check calibration status of MRI equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess technical and diagnostic acceptability of images prior to record.

  • Excellent organization skills and ability to pay attention to details.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and accurately and maintain confidentiality in all matters.

  • Current national licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.).or American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT)

  • Graduation from a Radiological Technology Training Program approved by the American Medical Association or equivalent training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One to two years of experience in MRI.

  • Knowledge of UCSD Quality Service Standards and Institutional Review Board policies.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Graduate of a school of radiologic technology or MRI Technology program.

  • Registered Technologist for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) issued by ARRT or ARMRIT.

  • Venipuncture certification within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Recent experience in a similar role and setting

  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Proven knowledge of radiological computerized systems and applications.

  • Must be willing to work in research lab environment . Must be able to work a variable work schedule.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $109,766 - $136,576 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $52.57 - $65.41

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).



Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
