Position Summary:
The Multicultural Community Outreach Specialist (MCOS) provides outreach and education primarily to African American and Black communities throughout Dane County, WI. The primary goals of the MCOS are to increase community members’ access to RCC’s sexual assault victim/survivor services, present culturally rich violence prevention programming to African American and Black youth and adults, and to help RCC strengthen relationships between the agency and the community through identifying and analyzing needs and how we can best meet them. All RCC employees must be committed to providing services with and to a variety of cultures with cultural awareness, sensitivity and humility. All employees must complete the RCC Helpline training.
Primary Position Duties:
Outreach & Education
- Develop and maintain relationships within communities that have been historically excluded and/or underserved by RCC and other sexual assault service providers.
- Design and provide sexual assault support-related consultation and training on sexual violence to professionals working with historically excluded and/or underserved clients.
- Participate in intra-agency and community meetings and work groups that impact or could impact the crisis intervention needs of underserved and historically excluded survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse.
- Provide outreach and culturally specific education on sexual violence and RCC services to historically excluded and underserved communities through networking, tabling, presentations and community programming in schools, community centers, and other programs that serve historically excluded or underserved communities.
- Meet regularly with supervisor to assess educational needs of marginalized communities and to develop strategies for meeting those needs.
- Develop, facilitate, and evaluate sexual violence prevention programming with African American and Black youth and adults (and sometimes other youth and adults of color) in Dane County, WI.
Program and General
- Ensure supervisor is regularly briefed in a timely manner on activities with which the MCOS is involved.
- Work with supervisor to develop and implement short and long-range program goals that further RCC’s strategic plan.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and maintain regular contact with staff and supervisor.
- Weekly, accurately document presentations, tabling, and outreach activities through the submission of demographics reports.
- Travel to as needed to perform the duties of the job.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Work is primarily performed in an office or classroom environment.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 20 pounds.
- Ongoing daily movement around the office and access or use of computers, office equipment, telephone, and any other pertinent supplies, space or equipment used to perform the duties of the position.
- Must be able to work with frequent interruption.
- Low to moderate noise level.
Education or Skills:
Required Qualifications
- Personal and professional experience with African American and Black and a variety of cultures and the ability to work for and within communities with cultural awareness, sensitivity and humility.
- Lived experience in the African American and Black community
- Equivalent experience or Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, psychology, education, or a related field.
- Knowledge and experience working with or supporting BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, persons with disabilities, and other historically excluded and underserved identities.
- Commitment to supporting RCC’s values of serving all survivors in Dane County, and an understanding of privilege and oppression and its impact on client needs and services.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Powerpoint and other presentation tools.
- Comfortable working as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Comfort and skill facilitating presentations and trainings.
- Access to private transportation.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
Preferred Qualifications
- An understanding of sexual violence and related issues.

Pay: $41,996.00 - $52,549.00 per year
