Overview:
Abacus Technology is seeking a System Technician to provide installation of audio/visual systems, repairs, and configuration of complex systems for the Johnson Space Center (JSC). This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities:
  • Install and configure multimedia equipment at JSC, Sonny Carter, and Ellington Field facilities.
  • Read and implement system designs from drawings and manufacturer documentation.
  • Document as-built systems on provided drawings in redline form.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems to device level. Provide medium complexity repairs as needed.
  • Operate audio control boards, data projectors, audio recorders, isochronous processing, and other audiovisual equipment. These operations are for the purpose of the performing maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
10+ years’ experience in multimedia system installation and integration. An A.A. or A.S. in electronics, applied technology or multimedia systems. Military experience in communications and/or electronics may be substituted for experience requirements. Work-related certifications such as Security+, BCSS, BTS, CCNA, MCSE, CTS-I/D, CompTIA A+, AMX, Crestron or similar are a plus. Extensive experience with the installation and configuration of legacy and current multimedia systems for presentation and recording. Deep understanding of packetized and isochronous networks a major plus. Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents and drawings. Able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Able to effectively present information to all levels of management. Understanding of mathematical concepts such as Ohm’s law, volume and geometric calculations. Able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Experience solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Knowledge of Dalet media asset management, and LAN networking topologies including CIFS Shares, fiber channel, routable and non-routable networks is highly desired. Able to repair mechanical tape drives and other such systems, understand RF, Fiber, Composite, and digital and analog systems, and have the ability to read and comprehend complex drawings, manuals and directions. In-depth knowledge of audio/video routing systems, RS-422 control distribution, SM fiber installation, systemic troubleshooting, as well as knowledge of the application of recording devices including Sony DigiBeta, Sony HD-CAM, Digital Disk-based Recording Systems. Able to demonstrate the following skills in a superior manner: problem solving, customer service, oral/written communication, organizational support, judgement, planning and organization, quality, productivity, safety and security, adaptability, dependability, and punctuality. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to: use of hands and fingers to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms; able to walk, sit, stand, crawl, or climb; talk/hear; and lift and move up to 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. JSC is an asbestos containing facility, the ability to accomplish and keep an Asbestos Level 3 certification is required. This training and all examinations associated with it will be provided. Must be a US citizen.
